  • Roof mount dvd install

    Hey,
I am in the process of installing a roof mount dvd into my 2003 GX.

can anyone help me with wiring locations, of 'acc' and 12v battery power near the drivers side fuse box or comp on passengers side?

Many thanks in advance for any advice

    Cheers
    Nigel

I can't help with the wiring locations, however a simple trick I did on mounting my roof mount DVD was to add a timber "brace" under the hood lining.

As the standard DVD mounting bracket screws in place of the interior light I found it "rocked" fore n aft on corrugations due to the narrow mounting points, approx 50-60mm.
To stop this I measured the clearance between the lining and the roof (19mm) then cut a piece of marine ply to size and using liquid nails glued the ply to the roof under the lining immediately in front of the roof cross brace where the light fitted. I then fitted the DVD bracket as per instructions and was able to fit some extra screws into the ply at the front edge of the bracket.
5 years and several trips, Simpson, Finke, Cape York, Strezlecki, Flinders etc. later and the DVD is still secure and virtually no vibration.

      Hi Lee,

Thanks for that. That is pretty much exactly how I am mounting mine.

Any tips on where you got you power source from or did you use the light wires.

      Cheers

i used the 12v accessory socket under the ash tray. i did this because i was also running RCA's to my DVD head unit and had most of the interior apart.

there is a constant 12V from the light, but this will not turn off with ignition. the other wire with 12V is activated my door switches.
