  • how to tell if my prado has traction control?

    Hi all,

I am new to the forum and have just bought a 2004 GX turbo diesel manual prado (poverty pack).

I am trying to find out how to tell if it has traction control or an lsd? I have searched but cant seem to find a proper answer anywhere. I am thinking of putting a lokka diff lock in and was just wondering as I know there are different ones for lsd toyotas and non lsd.

    Thanks!

Being a GX it is almost a certainty that it will not have traction control, if it doesn't have TC it will have a limited slip diff, although the LSD is next to useless especially on a Prodo that is not nearly new.

To check for TC look at the transfer lever, If it has L-N-H and a seperate button to engage the centre diff lock it will have traction control. If (more likely) it has LL-HL-N-H then there is No traction control but a LSD.

    Cheers Andrew

Another way to check if you have traction control, drive your front wheels up a curb, just to the point where when leaving it in drive it will still roll back down, and let it roll back. If you have TC, it will engage as the car rolls back.

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

The easy way to check is to look at the back of the pumpkin on the rear diff, there will either be a LSD label on it or not.

That only give you specs for a standard model. A GXL can have traction control if it has an option pack, not sure that the TC was ever available on a GX, but just check the transfer lever; that will answer the question.

Option packs including traction control, stability control etc were only offered post Sept 2006 for GX and GXL. So a 2004 won't have the electronic ad ons. Even the GX Limited which came standard with the wide steel rims missed out.

Mine is a Jan 08 GX with OP 2 so has it and more. Oh and traction and stability only offered on automatic 120s.
