  • Remote control acting strangely

My remote works perfectly in most places.

However, if I am parked under carport (vinyl roof) alongside my caravan adjacent to the exhaust fan/airconditioner it refuses to work.

Move the vehicle back a metre or so and no problem.

    Any thoughts?

      Mate,
Would there be something in your caravan that could be emitting a strong magnetic or electric field? Is the air conditioning unit on when this occurs? Maby try it with the air con off? Im thinking the wavelength not the frequency is being effected by something in the caravan or aircon.

      Cheers,

There is no power switched on in van, though the area, inside van, next to aircon exhaust fan ,houses microwave ,radio and fridge.
Inside fridge is a battery operated wireless thermometer , might have to move that and see what happens.
        Thanks for input.

Do you live near a TV or radio station?
How old is the battery in the remote?

            Amts,
not near a tv or radio station.
Battery is original (2007) as far as I can remember.

Took it Toyota thinking it was the battery but they tried it 20 or so times and said battery was fine.

Any clues as to why it works in most places but not just in this one spot.

I tried to activate door open from rear this morning , no luck but when I moved back to next to door it worked.

            EDIT
Later I reversed in and tried remote and no problem

Probably one of those mysteries of life
            Very strange.

Interesting, Id be keen to see what is preventing the frequency. The microwave would contain a magnetron but I would suspect this needs to have power to it to cause any drama with the remote. Let us know how you go.

              Cheers,

Could be some sort of local interference generated by the structure, simple fix, don't park there!

5+ years for the battery... depending on how many button pushes might be up for replacement. Try that as it is cheap to replace a battery.

Might do this just in case as it has not always been like this.

Dueler, there is no poser to van at present.
LeighW, unfortunately that is its garage.

When you press the button, are you holding your face right?

I'd say replace hem every 2-3 years hey.......
Are the waterproof? Wasn't sure but mine was in my pocket in salt water yesterday for 5 mins before I realised.
IDIOT! So quickly rinsed with fresh, dried it, tested it, it's still fine, luckily.
I should pull it apart and clean it, I guess they are water resistant......

Not water proof. I did the same thing with my remote and the salt water got all the way through it. Luckily I had a service booked the next day so I just got the service guys to open up the remote and give it a liberal dose of WD40. Salt water in electronics is very bad news. I'd certainly be getting some WD40 in that remote ASAP. Although mine still worked, shop guys said that water had gotten in it. Toyota guys said they are splash proof but not swim proof.
