  • Disregard the cabin filter at your peril!

Hi guys , just finished off a lovely job replacing the Evaporator in a Hilux KUN26 2006 build , i know its not a Prado but it is basically the same setup underneath all that plastic
This is the result of no cabin filter , it has done 160000 kms , i will let the pictures do the talking
All up it was a 7 hour job to replace it
this is an extreme case , but you can see the result

Not sure if i posted in the correct area , sorry if i did

Was the air con working at all?

with a filter blocked up like that, and a buggered evaporator. i dont think it would be working at all.

Theres a lot more involved there to replace that evap than a prado evap. Holy shit that's a lot of man hours to R & R the evap. Must have been minimal airflow if any towards the end. I reckon it still would have been working just minimal if any airflow and/or if would have been freezing up due to the thermistor not detecting the temp due to no airflow. Whats a job like that worth $2000 ?? Cheers Steve PS think I'll make sure I run a filter now.......Cheers Steve

It's showing 300g of gunk on the evaporator (I think)

Edit: OOps, NVM. Missed the earlier post.

I didn't get the previous vent temp as it was diagnosed somewhere else ,the customer said the air flow was non existent , my centre vent temp afterwards was 7.6 degrees (which is over 1 degree lower than most hilux's) and the vent speed on max was 22 km's , huge improvement

7.6 ?? and that's better then standard !!!, so standard is 8.6 to approx 9d out the vents. Sounds like the same issues the 120 with standard air (old dial set up not climate). Some one else on here said there aircon in there hilux was shit, sounds like there running similar system I'd say..........Anyway is better now you have fixed it.....Cheers Steve
