  • Post D4 Oil Change Click

    G'Day All,

Sorry if this is a re-post, I have tried looking for this issue but have come up empty. Recently I did a service on my 08 D4 Prado (130Km), (Oil/Oil Filter/Fuel Filter/Oil Filter) everything went smoothly until a day or so later I noticed a clicking noise which is very intermittent and seems to happen primarily when stationary and when the vehicle is off. The noise is defiantly coming from the drivers side of the engine, there have been no warning lights/vibrations/smells just this very sporadic click. The only info I seem to find on this issue if when an oil change is done the new oil flushes out any sediments out of the engine (http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...g-noise-2.html) (I know that this is in relation to mostly LCs)

Can anyone spread some light on this issue, hopefully this will not result in a costly trip to Toyota...

    Cheers,

I'll put money on a cooling heat shield or similar. Different metals cool at different rates, and when they're joined together (like a heat shield bolted to engine parts), it's not unusual to get the clicking sound you describe.

Well, I hope that's what it is Keiran.

Thanks for the input guys, the sounds seems to have diminished somewhat over the last day or two. Roo the service I carried out was around the 7K mark (127K) not quite the full 10K, I also used CASTROL MAGNATEC DIESEL 15W-40. When you say check your screen what do you mean?

      Thanks again for the help!

          G'Day All,

Just an update, I dropped the oil this morning and checked the screen, looked very clean and free of any build up. The car is not making the noise any more while the engine is on however the sporadic click seems to be there when the engine is off. I think I may have to bite the bullet and see what Toyota says...

It just seems strange that the noise is occuring after the engine is switched off. Currently there is no lack of power or surging, the car is very quiet on start up and idles at 700 rpm. The noise is defiantly coming from the drivers side of the engine almost near the wheel arch. My initial thoughts were the noise kind of sounds like a solenoid, not sure if this is even possible. It seems strange that this noise only occured after the oil change which makes me think it is indeed oil related, I guess Ill give this new oil a week to run in and if the noise persists Ill dust off the check book and head over to Toyota.

I have done some further research over at newhilux.net and found this thread http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewto...p?f=81&t=17587

            Thanks for the pointers Roo!

Sounds like it could be a heat guard on the exhaust cooling down.
Especially considering its after you shut down.
