  • Prado issue's

    Hi All,

I have recently purchased a 2009 GXL Prado. I have found a few issues with it. The 1st Q - is when filling up with diesel it coughs and splatters. It dosen't flow smoothly when filling it up. The 2nd Q - Once I get to the second tank (3/4 to 1/2). It plays up struggles to run and stalls. Iv'e purchased the two filters but have been unable to change the second filter. Please advise how to get the hose off? Q 4- Also the car tends to lock itself, is this build into the electronic's? Any advise would be appriecated

    Regards,

      I have 2009 GXL 120

A1: Most of the fuel should go in without issues. Fast flow pumps may give you some gurgling but that's normal as you are filling at a faster rate and the air is trying to get out at greater rate. The last 15 L approx can be very slow. You should just fill it to the first or second click on the bowser but I always fill to the brim. Just take your time and rock the car slightly and continuously. You look like a dick but that's what works. Remember you are filling every nook and cranny so it does take a while.

A2: Not sure what’s happening here. The amount of fuel (short of empty) should have no bearing on the motor. Best take it to a mechanic or some other PP may better help you here.

A3: Which filter are you referring to? Between the tanks or under the bonnet?

A4: If your car is locked with the remote then unlocked you must open a door within 30 seconds or it will relock itself. This is a security function in case you accidentally unlock the car or unlock it then get distracted and walk away. Very common with a lot of cars. Wife’s 2003 Honda CRV is the same.

        Hi Hazza,

With regards to filling the diesel dosen't matter whether I go slow or fast. It coughs and spits out. I'm thinking maybe the float maybe resticting it. I havn't filled up the tank since. I changed the two filter and gain 1/4 of tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!So far its running great, touch wood
        Thanks for the comments

        Regards,

          Hi All,

I changed two filters and so far so good. The second tank got down to a 1/4 of tank. The Diesel dosen't spit anymore.

Known issue, caused by stuck flap in fuel tank filler, has been covered in great detail on
this forum, try search for tank filling problem or similar.
