  • Bullbar recall question as tigerz11 bullbar loose after fitting

Sorry for the double post i put this topic in another section but this is probably the most suitable.

I've got a 2004 gx Prado that had a sovereign bullbar on it. Took it to Toyota as heard about the recall and they wouldn't do it as it was for a gxlnprado and was fitted to a gx. Bullbar rattled around like all hell so decided to buy a tigerz11 steel winch bar and winch. After fitting it still wobbles around a little. Doesn't rattle or anything but has heaps of flex and I'm afraid to winch off it as I don't want it to rip my bar off.

My question is if I can find these brackets that they used to fix the sovereign bar will it fix my tigerz bar? The mounting on the tigerz bar is exactly the same as the sovereign bar so im guessing its been copied unaware of the recall. Anyway help and opinions would be very helpful.

    Thanks

The reason I am asking as I'm unsure if the recall mount kit is specific to the bullbar or whether it allows the bullbar to have an additional mourning point to strengthen it up. Does anyone else's bullbar a have heaps of flex?

It seems due to the bars fixing only from the front bolts on either sides it allows flex. Doesn't seem right

      hey bud.
Look, my missus pranged the front a couple of years ago and a new Spov bar was fitted. It wobbled like mad.
I found most of the bolts to be loose and it even had a brace missing.
i took it back to the crash shop and directed them how to do their job.
The wobble improved 10 fold and really i would say i hardly notice it now.
If you are concerned get your tools out and put some elbow grease on those bolts... they may need it.

It sounds like there is no side bracing on the Tigerz11 bar. Can you take a photo?

Note that all bullbars on the Prado appear to wobble a bit. This is well documented on the forum and it's normal due to the soft body mounts on the chassis.

Yeah thanks for the reply guys there's no side bracing on the bar at all. The winch bar fits on solely from the mounts a the front of the prado chassis (3 or 4 bolts either side) and then the bullbar fits to the winch bar. It's got nothing to do with elbow grease I put it all on myself she's as tight as it will get. If you pull back and forth on the tigerz bar you see the whole winch bar flexing back and forth. It doesn't rattle around or make any noise. I thought maybe if I could get my hands on these recall mounts it would fix it seens as its got the same mounting system as the sovereign bar I pulled off? Can really get any pics as its on the car at the moment and has bash plates under the whole thing

          Thanks for the replies.

Toyota did the bullbar recall on my car despite me fitting the ARB bar myself after initial purchase. We have Ironman bars fitted to our work GX 150s. They all move about a lot to the extent where the bar has rubbed the paint off the front end panels and this is despite having the recommended 25mm gap between bar and panels. I guess this is still preferable than the situation we had with our 120s where the alloy sovereign bars virtually vibrated themselves to bits completely.

Yeah I dont know, this bar seems way too flexy... Everyone I show they go wow thats loose. Anyway I might get my mate who is a welder to see if he can make some sort of extra support bracket up for it. The last thing I want to do is rip it off when I finally get to use my new Tigerz11 winch. The problem is the prado never gets stuck!!!

If it is way too flexible, then you might want to query the supplier. They might have missed supplying you with a part.

I've got the Tigerz11 bar on my Prado and it does shake around a lot. It doesn't help that the top of the bar sits significantly higher than the bonnet so the movement is more obvious. I've checked the fitting a few times and it's all okay so I've accepted it. Used the winch once without a problem.
