Grande Strange fault

Same problem on my '05 Grande. Like a thump in the back after I stopped, or sometimes if I came to a stop and took off straight away the engine would rev and it would thump and then take off.
I had my transmission guy service gearbox and change diff oil about 2 years ago and it hasn't done it since.

Tailshaft, common problem on all models noth mine i have had tje tailshaft replaced under warranty. Problem solved.

Hutch- Prado 150 with some TJM Kit.

After reading the " original" question, I don't see how it could be tail shaft if sitting at lights with BRAKE on as tail shaft wouldn't be able to rotate until brakes removed.
If it was caused by the air conditioner cycling I would be inclined to have the idle up checked as the throttle only keeps the revs at same idle speed to stop stalling.
most logical cause would be auto gearbox / torque converter problem losing drive momentarily then taking up again.

When you have had three prado's that all have/had the same issue I can assure you that the tailshaft binds up then some times will release even just sitting there after you have come to a stop or by releasing the brake pedal a tad......Aircon idle is higher then when air is not on, all three of mine idled higher with air on then just sitting there with out it on, normal idle on my 120 is about 750 in park will jump to 880/900 when compressor cuts in, this can cause a surge when sitting at lights with foot on brake pedal.....Cheers Steve

As Steve said, i have had 2 both the same, there is thread called Tailshaft Clunk i suggest u search it and have a read.
