  • XROX bar - or what have you got?

    Hey guys,

So I was planning on not putting a bullbar on the prado but am thinking about it for some frontal protection when I go on my big trip plus the extra protection when off road. I really like the look of the XROX bar and to me it looks " slimmer"

My big issue is they my prado goes into my garage and I have about 20mm room left in front and that's it. So if anyone has an xrox bar how far does it sit out at the front? Perhaps if you could measure from the bottom of the grill in the centre to the furthest out part of the bar as I need to know how much bigger it is then the bumper bar.

Just out of interest what have others got and if possible can people with different brand bars please measure the same so I know if any of them will fit as well.

    Thanks, Josh.

Hi Josh, measured from the front of the grill to the front of the XROX (assuming you don't fit a winch) is 170mm. Add an extra 10mm if you fit recovery hooks to the bar.

Thanks trekrider that's perfect. How do you find your xrox bar! Are they as heavy as the ARB bars etc?

It's lighter than the ARB bar - lot less metal in it Having said that, the front didn't really come up any after changing over so negligible effect on the front suspension.

I love the look and the approach angle is far better. Two things I didn't like are firstly that there is no protection plate between the bar and the chassis under the radiator - easy fix to make one. Secondly, the washer bottle is left very exposed - I actually removed the OEM one and made a custom one to fit behind the bar - look at my build thread (Page 71) for details of both.

That's 100mm shorter than my Sahara Bar ( Grill to furtherest point out front being Rubber bump stops over the Hoops, otherwise 220mm)

Yeah the xrox sounds like it would be similar to the bumper bar. Thanks for the heads up trek

Josh just be aware that this type of bar is not Aus Standard compliant and can lead to compliance issues with the police in NSW

What utter rubbish - the XROX bar is fully ADR compliant. It has been fully air bag tested and has an ADR compliance sticker.

Yeah I know for a fact the XROX bar is completely legal and would have no regrets fitting one to the front of my rig, except that it is about 60mm to long still.. Looks like I'm going to have to reconfigure my garage shelving a bit.

Sounds like you need a 'Power Bulge' on the back of the garage

I've heard this before and I have researched it specifically for NSW and also found it to be untrue. As Trekkie said the XROX bar is fully ADR compliant and airbag tested, unlike some cheap Chinese made ARB copies you find on eBay.

I can vouch for that.. Considering that MUMSRIG was the development tool for this bar

There is a very big difference between ADR compliant and Australian Standard compliant of which the latter is where this bar has issues in NSW. Consult the RMS inspectors or an engineer and cover your back side is all im saying.

Mate, Mumsrig IS in NSW and has no issues.

There have been many detractors of this bar from the very start who argued it's not compliant when it is. They have argued it's not suitable for airbags even though it has been fully tested and IS certified.

This isn't a DIY bar that someone's knocked up over a weekend, it's produced by a reputable company who have had it fully tested and certified. They did have an issue with one of their bars in the early days that I have been told about (not the Prado bar) but with a very small modification it was passed by the Engineers.

Trekrider, Whilst I have NOT seen one of these bars fitted to a Prado, I have seen them fitted to many Nissan Patrols and Mazda BT50's. The issue that was raised on these vehicles is that when this bar is fitted it leaves too much of the front edge of the inner guard open resulting in exposing sharp protruding edges which causes the issues with the Australian Standard. These were the vehicles referred to the RMS inspectors at Penrith pits in NSW for inspection. From the conversations I have had with RMS vehicle standards, this type of bar when fitted to these vehicles that I have seen provide a lesser level of protection required by the ADR's and Australian Standard then the OEM bumper bar (catch points/ sharp edges) this is the issue. When fitted to other makes perhaps they are fine but again I haven't seen these in person.

Im not for one instance suggesting this is a home made bar or isn't a quality product, I'm simply trying to let a fellow in NSW know that at present this bar may still attract some adverse attention from the authorities over here, that is all.
