  • Prado Service new wording in warranty booklet

I just noticed in my warranty booklet that for every service interval where the book states all the items which need to be checked or replaced, Toyota has inserted a comment at the top of the page in red which states "IMPORTANT - check Toyota online system for manufacturer updates or something to these words.

Now if I took my vehicle for servicing to the local auto shop, they would never be able to do this part of the service. It seems Toyota has specifically inserted this wording to potentially limit our ability to have the vehicle serviced at a non Toyota service centre.

How could any non Toyota auto shop service the car to the log book specs?

    Any comments on this.

This may seem like a Toyota conspiracy which it well be, but this type of thing has been in use in the aircraft industry for years and is part of the compliance requirements which keeps things legal and up to date.
With the levels of complexity in equipment and need to correct problems to avoid warranty issues I can see why Toyota is doing this.
Bad news for your local garage but unfortunately it is the way things have gone there is little or no money in sales but heaps to be made in servicing.
Hence manufacturers are going down this path.

      rmargoss,
Have they given you the ONLINE web address :?: :?: :?: :?: for the updates.

I think they are alluding to warranty mods of which you should be informed of no matter where the vehicle is serviced.

My belief is legally you can still have your vehicle serviced by any repair shop or even by your self as long as you use genuine parts & use only specified oils etc (But do not touch any warranty issues)

      Cheers,

I sure that you MUST be a licensed mechanic and only use Toyota parts for any repair/service, for it not to affect the warranty.

Fazza, I don't have an online web address for the updates.

I'm just looking at the service intervals in the book and the big red letters stating "IMPORTANT" stairing at me on top of the list of things which need to be checked, replaced etc. There is no website. You are probably correct about the warranty mods. The reality is that these words were not in the service pages (10k, 20k etc.) of the warranty book of my previous prado, corolla etc.

If the car is serviced outside of Toyota how can I fulfill the warranty book requirements if one of the items marked as important and on the top of the list in big red letters is not part of the service performed by my local auto shop?

          Thanks

It seems to me that Toyota are using the web constructively in this regard. I would expect important notices to be displayed on their website.

Perhaps visit the Toyo website and print out the list requiring maintenance and get your local shop to do the 'necessary' work.

I don't understand what you mean by not part of the service unless it refers to warranty issues?

My original dealer does not have an issue with me or any other service centre carrying out the book services as long as you keep all receipts, to prove mileage, date & original parts being used.
It's a bit like if you where a plumber you would not get another plumber in to change a tap washer in your house.
But don't medal with any thing out side the service requirements, I would suggest that raised suspension, fitting different shock absorbers wrong size tyres & even different washer jets would all fall into the Grey area.

              Cheers,
