  • slight steering shake doing 100kmph

Hey guys, not sure what section to throw this in as i am not sure what the cause is.

I bought the car and it has a slight wobble in stock form at 100kmph on highway. Nothing too bad ive had the death wobble before in SWB cars ive owned and this is a lot more tame but none the less annoying.

since then ive added a 2" tough dog lift, had alignment done and still did it.

Now ive gotten rid of the Bridgestone Dueller AT's I had, put new BFG A/Ts on and had them balanced and still does it. really thought this would fix it...

Any ideas what else it could be, has anyone else had this issue and if so what has been done?

It is very weird as its not there all the time, sometimes has absolutely no wobble and other times it is pretty bad when you take your hands off the wheel, its moving all over the place although still seems to track pretty straight.

I did a search but didn't find much.

    Help is much appreciated!!!

With all the changes you have done so far, I'm wondering if it is a rim issue. Perhaps get the rims to a friendly tyre place and strip the tyres and check the rims for runout.

yeah I should have asked the guys to check it out on the weekend when I got the BFGs fitted...

It seem odd that it comes and goes, I would have thought it would either be there all the time or not at all, cant work it out. All the shortys ive owed its been castor bushes and steering dampeners needed etc but the prado is a bit different.

sorry for pulling up an old thread but after searching high and low for this to no avail it is finally fixed. Ended up being a front right hand wheel bearing that to the un-trained eye appeared to be fine. Wheel wasn't loose when jacked up and trying to move it. However after eliminating everything it turned out to be absolutely stuffed inside. All fixed and now it drives like new again.

          Hello prado2004,

I was going to suggest wheel bearing or Universal joint being sad. I had a similar problem with my Land Rover, turned out to be the front driveshaft rear universal.

Cars stop really suddenly when they break and lock the front axle up solid when the shaft flips and locks up on the chassis. I was doing about 10 kph when it shattered but it did identify the problem.

          regards

          Ross
