Don't normally have Prado Grande serviced by Toyota, so inquired about recall. Yes my vehicle was listed for recall.
Had job done at NBT MT Gambier. They also asked questions about load levelers, which I use for 16.5 ft van.
Recall work completed in a couple of hours just before Xmas (2013) and then given new Toyota Load Distribution Hitch (Kit part PZQ6330105) in a box.
Interestingly on reading installation notes it says "Do not use this LDH when vehicle is fitted with auto height adjusting suspensions" Grande has exactly that, I will revisit NBT and inquire what exactly "Do not use this LDH when vehicle is fitted with auto height adjusting suspensions" means.

7/01/2014. Queried use of LDH on air bag suspension Grande and the note about auto height adjusting suspensions Monday. Answer was that they weren't aware of the 'do not' clause in notes in hte box, and yes as I have auto suspension, that I didn't need LDH.
Go figure
Took ours in yesterday for towbar check to the local dealer. I explained the situation I have of using my Hayman Reece WDH on multiple vehicles, and that I would be out of pocket if I surrender my hitch in favour for a Toyota Prado one. I asked if Toyota would warrant the Toyota one used on 2002 Hilux or a Ford territory?
The answer was No.The service manager explained I would have to buy another Hayman Reece to use on other vehicles if I took Toyota Prado hitch replacement option.
As I tow 95% of time with Prado I will have t get the replacement hitch. I asked if the bolts were loose or had been replaced. He didnt know, and would have to check with the mechanic, who hadnt written it on the report
Took mine I'm today to get the rear seat belts looked at. They advised that mine is booked in for this campaign aswel. Be interesting to see considering mine is a bta towbar

Toyota do make a Genuine WDH kit and if you have a Toyota tow bar with an after market WDH they will replace it with a Genuine one, had mine checked on Monday 30/12/13 all ok and my replacement WDH is on back order. Hope the photos explain.

That load leveller hitch looks like a piece of crap next to the Hayman Reece
Took my Prado to the local dealer for the Recall and they explained that most Tow Bars are OK IF you don't use a Weight distribution hitch.
Problem is that the Towbar is designed to have downward force (not upward when you use a WDH).
They said 2 bolt holes were extended and fitted a complete new Towbar -after 8 years of towing a 6.5m caravan.
And they also offered me a Toyota Levelling kit which looks like it would maybe suit a single axle van at best, and the said I woud have to exchange my Hayman Reece $550. hitch. also went to great lengths with Pics to show that the Van would be well down from Horizontal if I usedtheir Levellers so I said thanks but no thanks to giving up my Hitch. They said well they won't guarantee that I won't get the same problem again =My answer "well if it lasts another 8 years I think I will be OK.
Well done TOYO after 8 years and didn't make me pay. "Oh what a feeling."
Today I went in to my local dealer to book my baby in for her 60 month 110K (40K) service. The girl behind the counter says that there's a recall for my car and it's to do with the tow bar. She says that they don't have any of the recall kits so they won't actually be able to perform the recall. I asked where was my letter or other notice advising me of the recall. She replied that they were not responsible for sending out the notices. I told her that, as my car is not fitted with an OEM towbar, I am not interested in having the recall. She said that they would then just check my fittings. I then politely reminded her that my car is a diesel and not a petrol like they serviced it last time.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.
G'day Dave sounds like you have had the same sort of experiences with a Dealer as me.
I won't go near thhem unless I have to (like a recall)
Every time they quote a Service cost it is $100's more than a Mechanical workshop.
In relation to the Towbar recall it as only for OEM Towbars,
Don't know what the gir at the Dealers was saying because Toyo would only warrant OEM stuff.
But my advice would be find a competent Mechanic and get it cheked.
Good Luck
Stopped in at Pacific here in Cairns yesterday to pick up some sump gaskets and an oil filter (never again - $25 is a bit steep for a filter) and dropped over to service whilst there. Told them I was looking at booking in for the recall and the bloke said, no worries, just need to order the parts in as we dont have any at the moment. They will call when they arrive. Well knock me over with a feather was I surprised by that.
Surprised at the service I mean, not the no parts situation. Waiting for my phone call now.

Hi I had my Grande towbar checked yesterday as per the recall, dont know what they did , if anything, except put the sticker on. The service rep told me they would swap any old WDH for a new one ("but I didn't say that!") if I brought it in. My question is Has anyone had a definitive answer as to whether or not they should be used with the self levelling suspension that is standard on the Grande. I might add I have been towing a 2.3 tonne ATM caravan without one for the last nine years with no apparent problems.
I had the Prado in at Toyota for them to do the tow bar recall. I returned to pick it up today and found that it requires a new tow bar and there are non available until mid to late March and sorry we have removed the tow bar and are not allowed to refit the old bar,so I am now left with no tow bar for this period, not happy . I rang a different dealer spare parts and was told that there is stock for a customer to come in a buy one for the approx $350 but the recall stock has to be ordered through a different process and appears to be unavailable, Not Happy and might consider getting a H/Reece bar fitted but will be out of pocket.

Imagine if you're travelling around Oz towing the van.
You call in to a toyota dealership for a service and they do the tow bar recall, let's say in Katherine NT and they take your tow bar off you, and tell you to come back in 6+ weeks.
FFS, Your on you're way to Broome via Darwin.
Now you're stuck in Katherine for 6 weeks or more.
Put the tow bar back on mr service manager, or I'll rip your heart out.
I can't believe they'd take your tow bar without at least calling you and giving you some options.
