  • Tire pressures - owners manual

The owners manual for my 120 says 265/65/17 should be 28 psi front and rear. I put a complete set of Goodyear Wranglers on last week and they put 40 psi and said that this is what I should use until I go off-road.

Why the contradiction? Whose advice should I follow?

There is a sticky thread in the 120 section on tyre pressures, have a look here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ssure-Database

Basically the book specs are so you get a nice comfortable ride and assumes a standard Prado with not much extra weight, but it wont necessarily give you the best handling or tyre life. 40psi is probably getting to the high side of what most people would run but its really up to you to. Have a read through that thread and you will get a feel for what others run.

There is no right or wrong answer for tyre pressures, there are too many variables for a one size fits all rule.

    Cheers Andrew

Thanks AJ120 - should have used the search function.

Have read some of the postings. Think I will go for 36 all around.

I run 38 cold and have done 66,000 on my AT3's so far with about half worn. Any lower and yeh it's smoother but seems to scrub the edges more.

I am on the 4th set of Cooper Tyres and have always run them at 40 PSI on bitumen until I moved to Sydney. I now find that 42 PSI is better, to avoid the edges from scrubbing out. Tyrepower in Rosebery also advises this pressure.
I will need to check the tyre pressures when I eventually get my Prado repaired (20 weeks off the road....tyres will be nearly flat).
Of course, when you hit the dirt you must reduce the pressure to at least 30 PSI to avoid damage, and at least 20 PSI for the sand.
