  • Air-conditioner not cooling properly

Just wonder if somebody can give me advice, the cold air coming from the vents on driver side is much colder than the passenger side. The difference between the two sides do not change on different settings. Is the system split in two?Any advice will be appreciated.Thanks.

What year and model do you have? Some of the 120's have dual zone climate control, some didn't.

    Cheers Andrew

If it is a VX or a Grande it will have climate control. This means that there can be different temperature settings from side to side. If you have big round knobs to control the heating, fan and AC. then you have a GXL or a GX and you don't have this feature. If you have buttons then press the Dual button and press the temp button on the LHS to lower the temp. If you have this feature you will get a temp. readout in the little window. Neil

My Prado is a GXL which means no climate-control.Just trying to find out why is there a difference in temperature between the two sides (driver and passenger side)when there is no control to do that. Can a shortage of gas cause that?Cheers

Low gas charge can cause that problem Jakes

Here's the thing that I notice on my '06 GX - took it in to the Toyota dealer here, to get the original stereo uncoded. Never really seemed to be blowing cold with A/C on.

Fast forward 6 months, and when I was upgrading the stereo the controller cable for the temp was pretty much sitting loose!

Anyways, there is a white plastic stand, and a plastic "sleeve" on the cable that should slot into the holder. Mine was sitting just on the outside, meaning that it could never get fully on the "cold" setting on the dial.

Was a "bit" fiddly, but used a long narrow slotted screw driver to "gently bend" back the stand's clips to hold the cable in place. Cold A/C aplenty!

I had the same issue with my 120 GX

Local friendly AC man came to my place, determined that the gas was low, regassed and immediately the AC started pushing icy cold air out of all vents.

Why find/fix a leak when you can just charge him to do the same thing in a couple of months time.

Or added a dye to assist in leak finding. It will be the evaporator. We have had 4 prado's with warm a/c with evaporator leaks in 3 of them!
