That is accessed under the center console, basically taking out the slack in the cables.
Same result, providing you still have adjustment there.
Adjusting the shoe clearance minimizes the travel of the shoes to the drum.
Parked on level ground.
Chock the front wheels so you can have vehicle in neutral and hand brake off.
Rear wheels off.
Supports under axle.
Locate the opening hole/adjuster access hole to BDC or about 6:00.
With a flat blade screwdriver you need to find the star wheel through the hole and lever aginst the hole to in effect turn the star wheel.
Turn the star wheel until tight, you will then not be able to turn the rear hub.
Back off the adjuster so that clearance is gained and you can again turn the hub.
Unfortunately I've found it best at this stage, to replace the road wheel with say just two nuts at this point to allow you to spin the wheel at pace to make sure you still have clearance of shoe and drum.
If not remove wheel and make the necessary adjustments.
Some pictures of components of the hand brake assembly.

Note the adjuster star wheel that I talk about sitting in the control joint in carport slab.

Note also the hole in the axle hub that aligns with hole in brake rotor, to allow adjustment of shoe clearance when holes are at BDC.

Hope this helps, really not that hard.

ThanksOriginally posted by adrian5800 View PostSpecialised diesel shop, I paid $340 for mine. Took them a couple of days.
Ended up paying more as I asked for a Compression test, new glow plugs and Valve clearances were adjusted. Took mine to a specialist 4x4 shop. Prado is running really sweet now. Should be less black smoke?

The covers come off reasonably easily too. Tested them today by taking the dog for a run and swim at the beach. He sits in the front seat with his head out the window. After the beach he got a wash at the doggy wash at the caltx servo. Seat covers soaked it all up and just need a quick wipe to lose the beach sand.Dave

Replaced 4 rotors and shoes. Adjusted handbrake. Used RDA semi heavy duty pads. These have a wide temperature range so should perform well around town and long descents (time will tell).
Only beded them in so far. I've eliminated the pedal pulsing and no more squeal yeah.
$356.00 all up inc high temp grease.
Good for another 100000 ks.

I chose to stay with the same brand pads as the rotors for warranty and felt they would be best match by the manufacturer. I also did like the fact they have a 'greater' temp range so work well around town but perform when you’re descending Mount Everest with a 1.5 ton camper.
No affiliation but I find for the service and price I use Lees Spares on Kingston Road for all my parts. http://www.performanceparts.com.au/
Will update info and how they progressing after I do a few more km.
Until then - Cheers

Used the Karcher drain cleaner on the chassis rails today. Managed to go all the way from the front to the rear bar on the driver's side. On the passenger's side it stopped at the rear wheel.
Was pretty happy with the outcome as a lot of dirt came out at the rear.
Now to actually use it in the drain
