Did Vito say what they are going to do to help if enough people call?

Best thing to do is give him a call and have a chat, one things for sure, if you do nothing you'll get nothing
There's 30+ plus owners on here who are very unhappy the way Toyota are treating their customers, there's 1000's of 2003 - 2004 Prado's around which must have the cracked dashboard problem as well (but the owners don't come on here). If 1000 owners contacted RACQ / NRMA / Toyota / Current affairs programs on TV, ABC radio etc eventually the deaf ears at Toyota might start to listen.

I received a response to my letter to Mt Akio Toyoda, President TMC Japan - it was sent back to Australia to be dealt with by Toyota Motor Corporation Aust!

So, the customer experience centre kindly pointed out that my vehicle was out of warranty and, even though I had clearly explained my use and care of both the vehicle and dash they felt fit to explain that any product including the dash board can be influenced by external factors beyond the control of the products manufacturer including:

          - operating and climatic conditions
          - driving conditions
          - vehicle usage
          - care and maintenance

...and, they believe the product has demonstrated considerable durability for it's 6 years and they are unable to offer any further assistance!

So there you have it - stop complaining everyone - your cracking dashboards have demonstrated considerable durability and you should all be ashamed by thinking otherwise.

And further to this, in an e-mail from my conversation with them, they state "Your vehicle is unsafe to drive and is un roadworthy!"
And stiff $hit its your problem now go away and stop bothering us!!
Great Customer Experience - an experience I will never forget (one way or another). Well done toyota.

              anectodal stories about
              1. multiple Toyota Harrier (Lexus R300) experiencing similar cracking in the dash - my workshop supervisor tells me
              2. nissan bluebird/sylphy fresh off the ship and up to a few weeks old on the road have blistering dash.

most japanese manufacturers (not just cars) share technology and know-how - therefore the material and methods used in making the dash could be common across japanese makes. could there be other japanese makes having similar issues? there could very be...

Mate, I got exactly the same letter today, saying I had got a good life out of my $50,000+ car and it is now well out of it's warranty so they will do nothing.
Obviously the thick twats have never heard of 'fit for purpose' and a car should last longer than 5 - 6 years without falling apart.
Onwards and upwards, if we all contact RACQ etc eventually we'll get something done.

BTW my clutch has gone now as well, normal 80 / 100 series landcruiser kit is around $300, Prado kit is $700 - $900, WTF is that all about!! (plus Toyota don't have any OEM kits in the country)

I got the same letter back as Wannawoda2 from Customer Experience following my letter to Max Yasuda and themslves. I also sent plenty of photos to support my claim. The last paragraph of thier leter states " Toyota certainly regrets that your vhicle has not met your expectations. We thank you for your patronage and allowing us the opportunity to respond to your concerns."
If they had advised me at the time of purchase the dash would crack after 6 years and 105ks I would not own the vehicle now.The hand book supplied advises what to do in extreme operating conditions with the mechanicals, and maybe they should have provided the same information for the dash. The letter mentioned a possible cause as "Operating and climatic conditions "....these vehicles are a global product and the conditions would be more extreme in the Middle East,North America,India and Pakastan......Absolute rubbish and now on to the next stage.

Add mine to the list too. This prob had not even crossed my mind untill I read this thread.I found one on drivers side between vent & dash.I used to have a hilux & a 80 series before the Prado & never had one drama with the interiors falling apart on both.Im very disapointed.

I own a 2003 gxl Prado. I purchased it in April 09 and in September 09 saw the first appearance of a crack. That crack now extends across the front driver's side. I noticed yesterday another hairline crack appearing on the passenger side. In February I sent a letter of complaint to the Office of Fair Trading. They directed me to ACCC which I am awaiting a reply. I have also contacted A Current Affair. I don't see how Toyota can think this is a general wear and tear situation. I also own a 1990 Nissan Patrol and guess what - it has no cracks at all! It would appear you would be better off buying a Patrol than a Prado. I have not finished with Toyota. I will keep fighting until this is fixed! It's crazy that you purchase a vehicle for over $30K and then not even a year later it appears to be unroadworthy. Interesting how they send the same response to all - I got the exact same email today!!!! Bring it on I say!

Further to this, I have also spoken to RACQ. The more customers that ring and lodge a defect notice with them, the more they have to go to the General Motoring Body with this information and hopefully force Toyota to do a recall. So no matter what state you live in, contact your Automobile club now!!!

If it's in the area of the passenger Airbag, Toyota do... I'd be approaching Toyota in writing separately as well to confirm their view of the safety consideration and road worthiness (they have confirmed this in all cases I'm aware of).

Please do not take this the wrong way and I admit to being no kind of expert on the subject but what are the ramifications if you have a letter from a car manufacturer who employee all sorts of designers and engineers and issue a letter stating a vehicle is unroadworthy and you are involved in an accident. I don't think it matters wether is is a small bingle or a serious one where the airbag was to deploy but would the insurance company have grounds to deny a claim.
