It's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.
Wish list: 2 inch lift, A/T tyres, Dual battery set up, Safari Snorkle, ARB Bar with winch, lightforce spotties.
Planning on making up for all those years of bitumen only travel.

Hey 05GXL
When did you get that done? And where? All the dealers I have spoken to have told me that they have never seen a 120 series with this problem!
How much was the cost of half a dash? Did they quote you? I'd be interested to find out what a dash cost to replace.
Thanks mate there is hope out there2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

It was about 6 months ago, my prado is an 03 so it was well out of warranty. I got the same response "never seen that before" it's a standard response which i'm sure Toyota have told all their dealers to use regarding this issue. Was done at Wonthaggi Toyota, from memory i was quoted $495 in total for the dash and fitting. Good luckIt's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.

Id jump at that $495, wouldnt even argue, even though we know its a problem for that price it wouldnt be worth the stress, but when its say $1000 and more then why should anybody have to pay for it when its a know problem doesnt matter its age..Cheers Steve PS I would still like to know who has the science degree saying it wont impede on the operation of the airbag ???? Well I spoke to Head Office in Melbourne again today and they told me that they will fix the car if it is within 6 years old however because the 120 series had issues they will either do a full change over at no charge, or they will put in and cover a section of it........2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

I just spoke to a constant customer of mine - Black Toyota. There are 17, 120 series dash boards in Australia at the moment, all of them are in Brisbane. They normally go for $900 each but if we wanted to do a group buy then they will drop the price to around $820. Maybe us Brisbane folk organise a weekend of dashboard changing lol.
It seems this particular item has been superseded a number of times - meaning they knew it was a problem item. They should have done a recall!

I'm still having no luck and today I was putting my UHF back in its holder and dropped it against the dash as I come down beside the silver panel and it took a chunk out!!!!!!! So pissed I'm going back to every Toyota dealer on Monday until something is done..2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

Well I've just been to Toyota again ( another dealership this time ) and they have taken photos and sent them off.. Fingers crossed they do something but will keep you all posted.
They also told me that the cost to buy the dash is $1150 plus install so god only knows what is going to come of this but I'm prepaid to make a scene when I'm there 😜2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

Just wondering if there a safety aspect to our dash cracking that warrants a safety recall via the ACCC.
My dash started cracking in proximity to the driver side A pillar and extended along the hood covering the instrument cluster and onward towards the ICE unit. I was thinking that given the dash was manufactured in one piece; the same material and composition would be present on the passenger side on or around the SRS deployment zone.
This indicates a high probability that over time, cracks will also develop here, but more importantly that although the dash material may look fine at present (but hiding an underlying weakness); what happens once it is exposed to the explosive forces of an air bag deployment during an accident.
In a worst case scenario, is it not feasible that the dash material covering the passenger side air bag could fracture and fragment during air bag deployment hurling uncontrollable bits of material at speed throughout the cabin. It’s not hard to imagine that such material could cause injury to occupants directly or even puncture the passenger and driver airbag before they have a chance to fully inflate and/or then safely deflate.
If the material from a batch used in the construction of our vehicles is suspected to be inferior (how many cases on this forum alone) how can ongoing ADR compliance go unquestioned as the dash is itself, a safety device to protect the occupantsTony

My thoughts exactly Tony. As per my previous posts, who has the degree's in science or what ever it may be from Toyota that said there would be no issues with airbag or deployment ?? And yes could you imagine the bits getting hurtled towards your eyes and a bit getting lodged in your eyes, bliding you who would then answer to that ?? Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Over 7 years on owning my old 120 always had a Toyota dash-mat fitted. When my Prado was sold, it only had one very small crack in the dash-pad assembly, which was not the cars fault; but mine from fitting a bracket in the wrong place and causing pressure on a certain point of the dash assembly.
From this experience, I am fitting a new dash-pad to my 150.[B][U]Matt
