  • To option pack or not...

I ordered my Prado (GXL D4D auto) without option pack 1. I then had a change of mind and as it hasn't been built yet asked the dealer to add it to my order. Having heard the ‘08 builds have downhill assist convinced me. Now after reading about not being able to have seat covers and the Milford cargo barrier having big gaps in the side, I'm reconsidering again. The Prado will mainly be a shopping trolley/daily commuter however I will want to load it up and do Fraser Is the Simpson etc. Is the traction control as good as diff locks? I’m assuming you can’t fit diff locks to a traction control vehicle.

    Decisions decisions...

Seat covers need to be airbag compliant.
They are available but not from Toyota as yet.
I have seen some at Supercheap Auto but are yet to find the right one for us. Grey nomads
Read up about stability control at
    http://tinyurl.com/25v7zg
Option Pack 1 $2455 and worth every cent.
Some friends have recently changes from a Subaru to a diesel Merc.
The wife an experienced driver but has a heavy right foot and coming out of a roundabout during heavy rain had the stability control kick in. Husband, an ex ambo says they would have been sideways in traffic if it did not have stability control.
Even more important on a Prado with higher centre of gravity.

My new D4D auto GX has both option packs (equivalent to the GXL auto with option pack) so I could get all the safety gear. I would not have bought a new Prado (or anything else) without it. My E series would be undriveable in the wet without stability control ops: Maybe that's why it is occasionally switched off! The reason I went auto and not 6sp was because the manual doesn't get all the safety gear. Traction control is superb, probably not up to diff locks in the really tough stuff but my 120 goes places my old 90 just looks at and they both have the same lift, A/T tyres etc, just more Nm and traction control. Bear in mind too that in 3 or 4 or so years when you sell everthing new on the market will have stability control, traction control etc etc standard. Your trade will be worth more if it is to equivalent specs.

Having driven 250 Kms on ball bearing gravel roads yesterday I can say I am glad I have the traction & VSC pack.

I think it is well worth it. The barrier is not really visible in your rear vision view either (Cut off edges.

My personal thoughts.. Why would you be prepared to comprimise the level of your own and your occupants safety just for "looks & Seat covers"? Safety over looks anyday for me.

worth every cent in my option.
the extra money spent now can never by conpared to you and the occupants safety. plus offroad you have that little extra for free.
you can put no price your families safety.

I also look at the eventual resale value of the vehicles. Some years down the track some of the stuff now offered in option packs may well be considered standard features. It all adds up to the eventual resale value of the vehicle at that point, particularly if you're adding safety features.

                Hey TP,

Would i be guessing correctly that these roads were on Kangaroo Island?
