  • Bullbar and snorkel

    Hi guys,

Just recently got two quotes for a bull bar and snorkel from TJM & ARB.... quotes are pretty similar, around the 2600 fitted mark

These are both from down in Wollongong

Any idea on whether I should shop around some more or if there is an end of year sale I should wait for?

Hi Grant, was that including colour coding and is that for the deluxe winch bar (ARB) with fogs?

Thanks for the reply. Not color coded, but yes it's the deluxe winch bar with fogs

Shop around i was quoted one price by arb head office but the local 4wd place was considerable cheaper for the same product.
But having said that calculate your time and fuel.

            Grant,

You should be able to get this price at any ARB with some bargaining or standard show price:
ARB Deluxe Winch Bar + Colour Coding + Fog kit + Safari Snorkel, both Installed (Diesel model) = $2700

Deduct $245 for colour coding if you don’t want it.
Deduct $200 for snorkel install, if you have the time to do it yourself (pretty simple).

PM me if you want more details.

I have the 'standard' ARB price list for the 120 Prado currently in front of me...
              Deluxe winch bar $1,704 + $300 fitting ($2,004 total)
              Safari snorkel $390 + $200 fitting ($590 total)
              Combined total is obviously $2,594

I'd be tempted to wait until the next 4wd showBlakmoth

I'm after a snorkel; I'll have it installed; I spoke to ARB and they said $540 or so for the Safari kit. This seems pretty expensive to me? Where can I best buy one - for a series 1 150 D4D?

                      Thanks.

They can be bought on ebay for $375, but I am not sure if its completely genuine, or whether its the whole kit.

But ebay doesn't fit it for you? $125 extra to have it fitted and you also have a warranty whereas on ebay your on your own if something isn't right - makes it a no brainer IMO get it from a proper retailer!

I know the guys at North Road Off Road Murrambeena do the Ironman Stuff if you are in Melbourne. They are a good bunch as they are part of Competition Tyres who are the Yokohama Motorsport dealer for victoria. I am in WA so cant help much more than that mate.

Oh thanks, I might go to the Ironman people. I have been there over the years ...

                              But are they as good?

Can you rotate them at the top, for the snow? I am in the snow each year a few times, and i've read unless you turn them the snow gets in and blocks everything ... although there's filter you can use ...

I am a plastic person, and the claims from Safari seem a bit over the top. All you need to get light stability, is to put in a lot of carbon black. You can add UV stabilisers, but lots of carbon black does the same thing as a UV stabiliser. The resin in them is not worth much either, but the die would cost a bit though ... all brands would have the same die cost, so therefor the price difference is IMO mostly profit or marketing. And when its painted, the UV issues also dissapear, because its painted ...

I have a scratch in the front right panel which I am getting fixed. While its not apparent to anyone, they will remove the liner to fix it properly. So, I thought I'd get the snorkel done at the same time. So, I will get the snorkel fitted then, and get the panel sealed with paint before then fitting the snorkel. I'm keen to spray the snorkel in the pearlescent white to match the vehicle. I don't like the black ones on a white Prado! I've seen a blue metallic Prado with its snorkel with matching paint, it looked terrific. On dark paint, the black snorkels look good too, but I think black on white it won't appeal to me ...
