After reading some discussions regarding the availability of the 120 series worshop CD I thought I would clarify exactly what the deal is, plus a little bit more nice info.
I called Toyota last week to inquire how much the service manual CD is and quoted the part number SC00W2EA. I was told it is $97 but is not available to the public, it is only for dealer purchase, as some people have been told before. They told me I have to buy the Workshop manual book for aroun $500. So....I simply called another dealer and gave them the same part number and they said it is $97 and I CAN buy it. Calling around different dealers most often gives you different results. Anyway, when I called back this week to order it they said that they had a price rise on 1st April and the price is now $154.
Feeling a bit ripped, and also having an understanding of how parts ordering systems work I gave them the older part number SC00W1EA. They said that this one is $78 but is obsolete and they would have to order it from the US and it would take 3 weeks - but I could still order it. I ordered and paid for it over the phone for $78.
As I suspected would happen, I got a call the next day from the dealer letting me know that my CD was in and ready for collection. When I picked it up it they had sent me the SC00W2EA manual as I suspected they would.
It is good that their parts ordering system only applies price rises to current items, not obsolete items, yet it still allows orders to be placed on obsolete items with the older pricing.
When the order is sent to the Sydney office, they simply see that the part number has changed to a newer one and fill the order with the new CD.
So in short, you can buy a service manual CD from Toyota, you just may need to call around a few different dealers and quote the part number - or the old one if you like
