  • connecting smart phone to my cassette player or built in screen?

    Hi guys,

I have got a 2005 prado and I want to connect my smart phone to my factory stereo/cassette player. I have also got a screen/display in my car which is again stock/from factory, i think?

I understand that there are various options like FM adapter, or bluetooth or even cassette player adapter but i understand that the quality wouldnt be any good? I would like to know if its possible to connect to the cassette player via 3.5mm Plug Jack to 2 RCA Male Cable and female jack to 2 male RCA adapter cable?

    has anyone tried this method?

hmmm i could get the head unit, but the problem is my display unit (screen) is linked to my cassette player. If you look at the 2nd pic, you can see the audio button between climate and info. Whenever I press the audio button, it displays everything like radio station, cd number etc etc... if i replace my cassette player with another head unit, will i still be able to access the audio options via the built in screen?

Hmm - lots of ways: Presuming you have no AUX input? Just done a 5 minute google search:

        Then:
Cassette Adaptor - sound can be crap
FM transmitter - same as above
Change you head unit - you are not sure
Something like GROM - GROM Auxiliary Interfaces - http://www.gromaudio.com/store/aux_a...e_capable.html
Does your car have a CD changer? You could use something like XCarlink: http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/

great thank you. I like the look of the Xcarlink, the car does have CD changer, but its built in i believe ie in front of the passenger seat area...

also what do you think about this cable? http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-Male-S...item58bce70c0b

I.e plug one side into your smartphone and the red and white cable in the back of the cassette player? it should work?

I think the xcarlink uses the changer input so you lose the changer.
The other lead, well it Depends on what model smartphone you have and if the back of the stereo has the correct inputs. Later model iPhones require a chip in the leads which prevents a non iPhone lead from working in an iPhone. Android should be fine. It just means you need to buy an authorised Apple lead, and pay for the privilege.

I've used leads like that to connect MP3 players to stereos for years. Though you only need the 2 channel ones for music, the 3 plugs include video. You can stil use the 3ch leads, just don't connect the video channel

I should say I'm not a audio engineer. Just going off my experiences..

Any suggestions on an after-market head unit that includes phone/bluetooth and reverse camera for 120?
