Ashtray Woes

Well i pulled the ashtray out a while ago and managed to snap the little spring that makes the flap on top of the ashtray go up and down and now whenever i go up a hill the ashtray falls out.

I do not want to pay for a new ashtray and as the spring disintergrated i cannot see it to match up with another anyone have a photo of the ashtray top plate spring or any ideas on how to create similar.

As usual it is the smallest things that irritate the most

My daughter smashed the lid on the ashtray in the rear door.. $123 latter, it's replaced with a new one.

One day whilst window shopping in a car yard, my son who was about 8 said to me when we got back into the car to go home..... here Dad, this ashtray is better than our broken one :shock: It was promptly returned and my son has become a good boy since then..... well he has made it to 22 so far without jailtime.... :lol:

I suggest a walk through a wrecking yard :idea: :?:

Put an add in the wanted section... many of us have pulled them out to fit other things (Brake controllers/EGT gauges etc) so someone may have one they are willing to part with.

their is a bloke (Daniel 0404846056) that is wrecking a grande V6 120 series.
he is out penrith way. give him a call.
he may be able to solve the ashtray woes.

Two ways to fix the problem

1. If you have a mate with a prado .. just borrow his keys and swap them over

or

2. I made something similar years ago for a toyota seca using a spring off a clothes peg ( i also tried a paperclip ) . We heated the spring up with a oxy then reshaped to suit . Try some different steels , over time I have collected a tub of 'what the' springs ... this always comes in handy .

LOL .. I had mates in my younger years (1990's) , and they would go shopping at night at the car yards for parts .. it started with small things like badges , then side lights , then rear lights (utes) and then it got bigger Spare tyres (again utes), and even a roll bar off on ute on night . The mates .. one is now a policeman and the other a doctor (lout grown the habit).

I don't support the theif of items , just had to tell a story .

Ashtray Woes

I've just installed a Prodigy brake controller into my ashtray and I am not using the spring. If you still need one, let me know. I have setup a temporary email address which is ashtray at darmody.id.au and let me know how I can send it to you,
