  • 120 D4D Prado always beeping

    Hello guys and gals,

    Have a 120 gx D4d prado.

It has developed an issue where it will beep constantly whilst driving, it is the same beep that it does when it first starts off. Some times it doesn't beep, more often than not it does. There is no rhyme or reason for it.

The beeping sounds like the beep to indicate water in diesel, however no other lights display on the day (including the light that indicate that you ned to check the seperator, this globe is still working when you first turn the car on.

Other things that have been done,
Drained fuel, different servo, metho thru lines.
More diesel pumps than I care to think about
No errors coming up via the computer

Also when it does beep, if I drain the sep, there is no water.

Has anyone got any ideas on what could be the issue, or have u heard of it before?

I'm tempted to just pull the beeper out, but apparently that is a massive job as well?

    Thanks in advance

The only beep I hear when I start mine is the test signal from my low coolant alarm. Do you have a low coolant alarm and if so, is your coolant low? The low coolant alarm is not standard BTW.

Ok then, so let's change the problem to...
It used to only beep for a few seconds when u first started, I thought it was a system test thing.

Now it beeps almost all the time

I don't know where it is in the 120 but in the 150 the front passenger seat belt warning light is on the left side of the centre console out of the drivers line of sight.

Occasionally, I'll toss something onto the passenger seat and it intermittently causes beeping but no lights.

It doesn't take much weight. The last time it happened was after the last service where the folder of owners manual were left on the seat.

I can't recall mine ever making those noises. I would be checking any aftermarket accessories you have fitted.

                Cheers Andrew

My dual battery management system display will beep like that if there's a disconnect problem or the battery voltage has dropped below an acceptable level.

But like the others, my car has never had an OEM beep, ever.

Thanks for the possibilities guy, just to add some further information - everything works on the car fine, and there is no drop in performance.

The car was previously used in the mines, and it did have a dual batt system that was taken out.

Could it be that the car is looking for a second battery and throwing the error on startup?

Is there any setting on a Ecu or similar to tell the car to expect 2 batts? Would there be an easy way to test this?

Happy to have any other guesses thrown at me, as u could imagine it's super annoying driving with it beeping like that all the time.

Being ex mining I bet you it has the low coolant level alarm switch installed. They all do I think.

Your coolant might be fine but maybe it's the switch that's buggered?? Have a look at the radiator area and see if you have one of these.

So it's fixed, don't know exactly what it was tho.

I tried to locate the actual thing that was beeping, and it sounded like it was either behind the main fuse block under the dash, or coming from the rear of the unit itself.

Anyways, I undid the nuts to lower it (2 at the top and a bolt at the bottom), and then when I turned it to ignition the beeping at start up stopped.

The only thing that I changed was removing three 'loop terminals?' That were using the bottom bolt as a earth point.

One by one I added the terminals, until I found the one that caused the beeping.

One I isolated that wire, it worked out that the path that it was taking was as follows..

It was properly terminated at one end, where it would have been connected to a switch, with three other wires (these terminals were ran up to the plate under the keys were spots for driving lights are etc.), then it went to the earth point, then from there it was twisted and taped to a wire in the drivers kickpanel.

There were a number of wires here, all cut and taped, from where something had been removed from the car.

When this wire is not earth, there is no beeping.

So I'm not sure what it was that was beeping, not sure why it was beeping, not sure what was there in the first place that was removed - but what I do know is the bloody thing has stopped beeping

                          Thanks all for ur input

Good to hear you stopped the beeping, it would be interesting to know what it was warning you about though.

                            Cheers Andrew
