  • Anderson plug wiring to 3rd row seat area

    Hi all
Just wondering how you have wired an anderson plug to the rear of the car from the second battery.
I have installed the second battery behind the drivers headlight.
Two thoughts are alongside or through the chassis or along the inside of the car under the scuff plates etc.
    Any ideas?

Easier to run the cable using the fixings along the tranny tunnel if you're intending supplying power to a trailer. If you're going to power fridges etc in the rear then I have 2 sets of cables through the firewall on driver's side and along under the scuff plates, and then inside the rear plastic wall trims to Narva plugs with the heavy twist type plug receiver.

My internal power cables are run under the scuff plates to the inside back of the car. I have a power cable that pops up to in front of my drawers so that I can plug the fridge in.

The high-current cable that I have to the back of the car for charging trailer batteries and powering external accessories are run along the transmission tunnel. Just be sure to wrap the cables in the protective corrugated wrap to protect them from wear.

Inside the passenger side chassis rail for me, then up through the grommet under the jack compartment.

            Thanks for all the responses.
Good info although I was hoping that you all did it the same way so as to take the decision out of it...haha
The car is going onto the hoist soon so I will check out underneath.
In previous cars I have always run it under the scuff plates but it is a bit of mucking around, same as the chassis method if I dint have access to a hoist but with a hoist I think it maybe easier.

I am running 16mm2 double insulated cable, do you think there is still enough room under scuff plates?

Yes. I ran twin 13mm2 and a few 6mm2 cables and there was ample room.

Mjrandom can you tell me why you ran the extra cables.
If i need to i would like to do it all at the same time.
I thought i would tap off the main cables that i ran to the rear and wouldnt need extra cables

One is for electric brakes, one for auxiliary battery voltage signal, one to supply brake light power to the brake controller (not necessary but I thought it was at the time). May have been two 4mm2 and one 6mm2 now I think about it with the heavier being brake signal. There was another but it may just be sleeping. I think.

As for power off the aux, which in my case is in the back, these come off a 6 fuse block in the battery box. Twin USB, 12V socket and fridge power.

For anyone who ran the cables through or alongside the chassis rails and used conduit, did you use the split or non split conduit and the reason why.
I am thinking the non split would not allow any water or muck in but if it did get in then the split would allow it to drain away.
                    Thanks all

I used a cable that had 2 6B&S, plus 2 other smaller ones (1 for trailer brakes, 1 for auxiliary battery voltage signal or anything else you choose) all wrapped in one external sheath.
I ran it through the chassis rail, but didn't add any extra conduit.
The wires all have their own individual sheath, plus the extra sheath surrounding them all. You can just protect the main sheath where it enters and exits the chassis rails (IMHO).
                      cable is something like this:http://www.baxters.com.au/cable-6-b-...-blue-30m.html
I didn't get it from there but that's the first one that came up in a google search.

Did you have any problem running through the chassis rail?
I tried and couldn't seem to get all the way and ended up leaving the wiring for my Anderson plug fitted along side the rail.
This was fitted by City Toyota when I bought the Prado, prefer it inside the rail but so far no problem with damage to cable.

I ran mine along the chassis in solid flexible conduit.

Just to let anyone know who is interested, I ran the cables through the firewall and down the side under the scuff plates and into the rear cargo area.
Here are some pics showing the space under the scuff plates etc.
                            Cheers

Limo Guy yes it was not easy to get through the chassis rail. Around the rear wheel arch it got really hard to get through, but I persevered with my wire cable puller and heaps of silicon spray.
