I talk to a diesel injection specialist, and he reckons the Venturi is only in the petrol models, so can't be that. Also my engine is the 1KZ-TE which apparently doesn't use the high rail system it's the older version with a SPILL control valve not SUCTION control valve - with the latter having similar symptoms to mine when faulty but not the former (which I have) Bloody confusing as my car is made in the year they changed.
So the Spill valve usually does not stop and start, apparently it will just die. Leaving that it pretty much has to be something electrical, someone has suggested running it with a heat gun on the Spill control valve solenoid to see if this causes it to fault. Almost everyone agrees that it is unlikely the computer with some saying that this will usually fail instead of causing intermittent faults also. So I guess I'm left with cabling, possibly after a long period of running current through it the heat causes failure?
My options are, change Valve, Harness or ECU. With the valve being the cheapest yet least likely issue, and the wiring harness being most likely however also most expensive...What to do??
