  • Squeaky bonnet after a little air...

    Hello all,

    Took my new 120 Prado out fro a spin the other day and channelled my inner Jeremy Clarkson a bit too much (POWER!) going up a little hill.. and my Prado learnt to fly. Unfortunately since then I have been hearing this irritating squeak. Investigation further it seems to be the bonnet edge rubbing up against the body panel on the drivers side. I have tried loosening the bolts holding the bonnet to the bracket and twisting the bonnet back into place, but to no avail.

    Does anyone have any hints or clues to get things to line up again and stop the rubbing?

    Reverse back up the hill or

    I think you have to undo the bolts and realign it.

        I tried undoing the ones attachgin the braket to the bonnet. but there didn't seem to be any movement...I'll try it again tonight

            haha... my mate expected me to get stuck by not giving it enough guts.. but i didnt want that to happen and gave it a wee little too much

              You may have bent something, as the gap on the other side still seems OK.

                I'm guessing the top of the front suspension has been pushed up and in so it has a few less degrees of camber and a few more degrees of toe-in.

                Grind a bit of bonnet off and repaint it and then a wheel alignment and you wont notice it.

                Clarkson only did it to other peoples cars.

                Could I suggest you invest in a four wheel driving class so you can learn how to get over little rises like that without damage.

                  Hard to make out, but looks like the bonnet isn't the problem but the body panel because it has deformed around the headlight lens. Do you have another photo of the snorkel side?

                    If its a side panel as suggested you should inspect carefully. You don't want a progressive problem that gives way in a few months (or few more jumps)

                      After your suggestion i looked again, and it seems to be that front quarter panel has moved. I was able to undo a few bolts and move it a few mm to stop the rubbing. As midlifecrisis suggests, ill get it looked at next time i am near a mechanic or crash repairs. THanks everyone

                      NB there will be no more jumps, dont worry :-)

                          Agreed... judging by photos the bonnet is fine and it usually is since its not a fixed panel and can flex under thise conditions. Body panels are fixed solid and so have a tendency to bend instead of flex. Consider checking your chassis bolts as well. Basically check all bolts to see if the paint has been broken.

                            I'd say the guard clobbered the bullbar on the landing as the body mounts compressed, I have seen a lot of prados with insufficient gap after bullbar fitment.

                              Hi Adrian 5800,
                              My 2008 GXL had to have a Toyota mod done to make the gap between Toyota bar and body bigger. It was all done due to Toyota recall.
