  • Belt replacements DIY

    Hi guys,

I recently got new fan and alternator belts...
Is it to difficult if I want to change them myself? What tools do I need to do this?
If anyone know of a nice source that can lead me on with this (I know this should be an easy task) please let me know!!

If it's anything like the 150 then it's easy as. Refer to the belt diagram under the bonnet (mines is on the air box) for which pulley is the tensioner and routing. Select the right size socket and long handle breaker bar and release the tension off the belt and remove. Put new belt in making sure it is attached properly to all the pulleys and in the right direction. Get on the tensioner again and slip the belt onto the last pulley (I find the alternator the easiest).

What engine? It all depends on the motor as to how hard it is. If you are mechanically minded you should be fine though

The alternator belts are a matched pair and the alternator swings for adjustment. Loosen the lower and upper mounting bolts for the alternator, the loosen the adjusting bolt (long one that comes out beside the lower mounting bracket) to allow the alternator to swing in.

If it has A/C, and if the A/C is genuine, the adjuster is an idler pully. Loosen the centre nut of the idler then loosen the adjusting bolt that point upwards. This will allow the idler pully to drop downwards.

Replace the belts with new and tension. Make sure all the bolts you loosened get retensioned.
