  • 10000km service vs 6 months

    Hello guys,
Just looking for your opinion on the following situation with the servicing intervals. I had my car's 5K km service done a few months ago as per the book (oil, filter-Toyota parts).
Now the confusing part: the book states "at 10000km intervals or every 6 months whichever comes first".
It is time (the end of June) to do a 6 months service, but the speedo is under 10000km, (the car had done 7.5K km from which I serviced a car at 5000 km due to towing).
Do I still need to do a 6 months service or should I wait till 10K km on the clock? Should I consult Toyota on this? Will the warranty be void if I do not do a 6 months service now and do it at 10000 km?
If I do a 6 months service now with 7.500 km, should I do the 10K as well (which is only 2.5K km away but will be much earlier than 12 months)?
    I don't think I should do both, isn't it?
    What are your thoughts/experiences?
    Cheers to all

Sorry I can't be of any help Hornet

Its not a problem that I have experienced.

I'm getting my 10,000 Km services done every 10 to 12 weeks

    Cheers

I had my car's 5K km service done a few months ago as per the book (oil, filter-Toyota parts).
Is this right? I thought the D4D was 10k services under normal use? and whats with the filter? surely thats not in the service book for normal conditions?

My old 1kz is oil only at 5k no filter.

Time basted servicing is all about the lubricants (it's not like the filters go off or get dirty just sitting there) The fluids and lubricants however (oil/brake fluid/coolant/transfluid) can absorb moisture and contaminants from the air and degrade over time.

I do mine on k's... a few weeks or a month or two matters little. I'm more worried about soot load and oil breakdown.

As long as you drive on a regular basis and the motor gets a good run at operating temp then moisture isn't an issue either as the temp will evaporate it off.

Hornet, it should be six months or 10000klm what ever comes first, if you are doing low k's than every six months it still should be serviced otherwise you could void the warranty.

yeah what Hutch said. There other things to consider besides engine oil. Brake fluid for example especially when it gets to 12 months old. I had a 100,000km service completed at 90,000km because we weren't doing the km compared to the time, not on a Prado though

and any dealership, Toyota or otherwise, will use any excuse to not honour a warranty claim
