Re: Service Costs
Hi all,
I was previously under the impression that the price for servicing from one Toyota Dealer to the next for the same service should be the same. Thanks to the information in this post, it became clear that it wasn't the case.
I've got a 2009 120 Series D4D which is due for it's 40,000km service. The vehicle was previously a Council car and therefore does not come with Toyota Advantage fixed price servicing. I decided to ring around a number of dealers in the Sydney Metro area to get an idea of costs for the 40,000km log book service. Here's what I found:
Dealer 1: $882.00
Dealer 2: $780.00
Dealer 3: $775.00
Dealer 4: $690.00
Dealer 5: $675.00
Dealer 6: $580.00
I really cannot believe the hugh discrepancy between the various dealers for what essentially should be exactly the same service. I've had my vehicles services by a number of Toyota Dealers in the past and I must say I'm am not impressed at all with the level of service provided. This has just put me off completely. The reason I went back to using Toyota Dealers for service was to ensure that my warranty was not void. After checking Toyota's website, it is clear that we do not have to take our vehicle to a Toyota Dealer for servicing to maintain our warranty. I am now considering taking my vehicle to a 4wd specialist I've used in the past who has a good reputation, comes recommended, uses Toyota Genuine parts and is close to home. At least I know that my vehicle will be serviced by an experienced mechanic and not a first year apprentice for less than any of the prices quoted above.
The "Helpful Questions and Answers" section in the Warranty and Service Book that came with my Prado states the following and I quote:
"Isn't Toyota Service Centre servicing more expensive?"
"This is one of the great myths of modern motoring. Your Toyota Service Centre provides excellent price competitive servicing and when you take into account the benefits of having Toyota Trained Technician using Toyota Genuine Parts, there really is no comparison."
I'd hardly call it a myth and sadly, a "Toyota Trained Technician" means very little to me these days.
I'd like to send this feedback to Toyota Australia but all I have is a phone number. I'd like to e-mail them to see what they have to say about the huge price variances between dealers. Does anyone have an e-mail address for Toyota Australia?
