I have had this a couple of times, in my case I found simply put the back seat up again
and making sure it is locked then press the seat lever again fixed the problem.
Pressing the release lever with the back folded forward would not release the seat for some reason.
After putting up with this problem for over twelve months and my sheer stubbornness not to give in to a repairer who quoted new cable and at least 4hrs labour ( big $$$$) I decided to have a crack myself.
Well after pull the plastic covers off, unclipping the fabric and seeing who the whole system works. All seemed to be in order with no brocken cables. However when the unlocking mechanism activated I noticed that it was catching on the metal frame of the seat. How could this happen you ask, it seems some boofhead (me) has used the seat for extra hight to tie something on the roofrack thus bending down the outer bar that the cushion wraps around and where the locking mechanism is attached to. Quick fix jimmy the bar back up freeing the locking mechanism, problem solved.
This might not be an interesting post but a note for vertically challenged p/pointers to not use the seat and get a ladder.
