Hey there, Last night i was driving my 120 series prado (V6 Petrol) on the freeway, all of the sudden the car just turned itself off, almost as though i had snapped a belt or something. I pulled over, check the belts, everything seemed to be fine. when i tried to start it though there was nothing, light were ok but it was almost like it was in Reverse or Drive and i was trying to start it. After 10 minutes or so i tried again and it started fine, drove about 1km then it turned itself off again and wouldnt start. half hour later it started again, drove about 10-15 km without it missing a beat, thought i would boot it a little to see how it went, and it turned itself off again. the car is currently at an auto electrician but they dont have any ideas. Started this morning fine, but havent been on a drive to test it properly. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Car died whilst driving, wouldnt turn back on HELP
Thanks, i managed to get it to our local toyota dealership, they cant look at it until tomorrow. hopefully they'll get an answer though! Ill keep you posted. Auto electrician seems to think its a security issue, guy at toyota disagreed tho.

Re: Car died whilst driving, wouldnt turn back on HELP
Hey Anthony
A problem like this happened to me in 2007
the car would just cut out if i hit a bump.
It turned out to be a wire rubbing on metal under the dash
and when it touched a certain spot on the metal it would short out
the ignition micro blade fuse in the kick panel under steering wheel
it was a pain in the a$$ till Toyota found it.

Re: Car died whilst driving, wouldnt turn back on HELP
Weird! You'd have to say it was a short as Ryan suggests or a faulty sensor somewhere. Maybe the engine thinks there's no oil left or something and you've got a safety cut out kicking in. Definitely time to check the fault codes though as suggested. Re: Car died whilst driving, wouldnt turn back on HELP
Turns out it was a faulty ecu relay switch. They charged me $422.90 to get it fixed. Better than a new ecu i guess. If it does ever happen to anyone, the fog light relay is exactly the same as the ecu relay, so maybe try switching them. Thanks to everyone who posted comments too!
