I had my Prado keyed/coined/whatever in Prahran about a year ago - in the middle of a day. Just one panel, namely the driver's side door. After a few quotes from panel shops I got Auto Paint Fix, a mobile auto sprayer in Melbourne to come over and do it at my place. It took the guy four visits (I'll spare you the intimate details) to try and fix it.... After a huge (unfunny) comedy of errors he just could not match the colour (dark green) and in the end I had to demand a full refund from him, which I did get. Avoid these cowboys at all cost:
PS. He also told me that there were about five shades of green with the same paint code. How the hell does that work? ARB managed to colour code my bar bang on with the code - as has one professional panel beater after some tool rear-ended m in his... sigh... Ford Territory...
he probably means shade variants, which would be correct. Mobile guys shouldn't be painting doors any way, we just dont have the control over our environment, like panel shops do. i know this, cause i'm a mobile spraypainter!
get mobile guys to do plastic parts only guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically I don't know jack about painting cars...
However, why doesn't every 'shade' then have its own code? Surely that would make things easier for the guys doing the jobs - and a better outcome for the customer. I realise you're (probably?) not in charge of such desicions, but maybe you could shed a little light here...?
As I said, two professsional outlets (ARB and a proper panel shop) had no problems doing this.
And yes, I shall NEVER use a mobile guy for anything in this department again. Lessons learned... the hard way... sigh...
Also, the paint he used (DuPont, I think - he reckoned it was a top product) just doesn't seem to be as good as the original as far as durability and scratch resistance goes... Should he have applied a 'clear coat' too...? He said it was a part of the paint he applied.
fark this guy sounds dodgy, on the variants, different batches of paint will be slightly different colours, so when the colour lab matches a colour for their brand (Dupont ect) they basically give the end user a few options, ie, lighter flop, darker flop, green flip ect. its the tradesman job to use correct one and check colour before application.
Dupont is a top self product, its sounds though he is actually using nason, which is a subsidiary of Dupont. If it is this system he is using, its totally unacceptable as a refinish system. its what you paint metallic coloured trucks, buses horse floats ect with. still great paint, though not on a prado!!!!
the nason system being a mono coat metallic doesn't need a clear coat. (hence why i think its this product he has used).
Us mobile guys are great and can save you a ton of time and money, but we are limited by mainly the environment, and materials we can use outdoors. scratch removal stone chips, alloy wheels (painted) bumper bars, are the thing we can successfully do. i've painted roofs bonnets guards ect outdoors, looks good, but no where the finish of a panel beaters, because of my limitations.
