  • Reverse sensor & DVD player in 2004 Prado Grande

    Hi,
I have just purchased a 2004 Prado Grande. I am having issues with the reverse sensor. When I puchased the car it was working fine and then a week later I didn't hear the beeping anymore. I guess I have been playing around with the buttons to familarise myself with the car and I may have switched it off. The manual doesn't tell me anything. Can anyone help me to get this working again.

Also the DVD player that is on the ceiling works fine but no sound iscoming out. Again the manual tells me nothing. Can anyone tell me where the sound comes out of e.g thru the unit itself or thru the radio speakers or via the Sat Nav system. There is no volume button on the DVD player only an Audio button but it doesn't do anything when I press it.

    Thanks

Re: Reverse sensor & DVD player in 2004 Prado Grande

    Hi Eli-kay

The reverse sensors come on automatically when in reverse, can't turn them off (unless you do a Pradopoint mod as they can be annoying whilst reversing trailers).

As for the DVD player, don't think there was an option for the DVD player on 2004, so it will most likely be an aftermarket fitment, and as such there will be nothing in the manual as its operation will be dependant on how it was installed. The earlier model Sat nav had no Aux input, but there are a few mods that allow audio input but you lose the CD stacker (under passenger seat). if that still work then only option for audio to work in sat nav is FM Modulator, but as for what freq, only the installer and previous owner would know. Have a look around for some head phone jacks could have been wired that way, or as you said maybe speakers in the DVD player.

Sorry can't be of more help but unfortunately, aftermarket items are so diverse.

    Thanks
    Matt

      Hi Matt,

Thanks for your response. I may have to go back to the car dealer to help me, because when I reverse the sensors don't come one anymore.

Aaah! That's funny because there is a small unit with the yellow, red, and white cords under the driver's seat (I haven't looked under passenger seat though. We don't know what that is. Some sort of audio thingamagic. I don't know what this was used for - may the DVD player. May have to take the car to Strathfields or something like that to get it checked out.

Thanks for you help Matt. You have shed some light on this for me.

      Kind regards,

      Eli-Kay.

        Hi Eli-kay

The control unit for the factory reverse sensors is in the jack compartment in the back left hand corner, if you open the flap there you should see the jack, if you look up above the jack you should see a little black box (may be wrapped in foam), you can check the plugs are in tight. The other thing I just thought to check (of course its the simple things we forget) is that your reverse lights are working, as the reverse sensors are probably powered from them. Maybe worth a quick look to save the time dealing with the dealer.

Your probably on the money with the box under the drivers seat as yellow, white and red cables are usually the colour codes for Video, Left & Right for AV equipment.

        Happy to help

          Hi Matt,

See you learn something new everyday. Thanks for your help again. I will check out the jack compartment. I also called my dealer yesterday and he said to bring the vehicle in as it's still under warranty. But I would like to learn how to fix these problems myself so I know for next time. If I can't solve it I will have to take the car in.

I will let you know of the outcome.

          Kind regards,

          Eli-Kay

The CD Changer is under the passenger seat. The box under the drivers seat is for the GPS Dvd to go in. So when you update the maps you need to change the DVD out of there.

              Hi,

I have just bought a 2004 grande and found the same thing with the DVD. It wasnt until I found the head phones that I realised that it should have come with wireless headphones. I am in the process of finding a new set so if I find some I will let you know where I get them from. I dont think it works without these head phones.
              Hope this helps

                Hey Jamesy3187,

I know this thread is a bit old now, only 5 years but I've searched the net for days and this thread is the only thing which is target for my problem. We have also just swapped our 2011 Amarok for a 2004 Grande 1kz (got sick of modern technology in these motors and yes I also own a 4.2 patrol!!!!!) and it has a DVD player in it but no manual or headphones or audio out or anything......???? Now being a patrol man (and I'm not narrow minded and realise the best cars in OZ are nissan 4b's and toyota 4's) i have no idea about these Toyota's.

Did you have any luck with your enquiry??? I'd really appreciate any info on this DVD in this car, the kids are driving me nuts!!! Is it meant to come with headphones or is it meant to player through the stereo??????

Thanks all and happy motoring in the bush.

                Cheers,
                Hodgo.
