Steering issues - vibrations and non responsive @ hi-way km

Over the last few months I've added a 55mm lift and MT ATZ 4 rib and haven't actually had the chance to drive the car over any long distances at highway speeds and after 9 hours in the car today I'm frustrated and not sure where to head. Above 80km\h the steering wheel has a very slight, but more so annoying than dangerous vibration and the steering appears to have a dull spot before the vehicle actually starts turning at these speeds - the vehicle appears normal and fine at lower speeds. Any suggestions whre I start? Wheel alignment and wheel balance were supposedly done when the tyres were fited.

PS. I have tried searching but wasn't able to a find a thread with all the above described symptons

Not of much assistance here but I've been running MT ATZ4 with Nitrocharger Sports OME gear for over twelve months and can't say I've had that issue. Possibly a balance issue if a weight has been lost and becomes more noticable at speed. Have you checked to see if there is any signs of loss of balancing weights? Could happen over rough terrain or with sloppy tyre changes. Shouldn't but could.

if its a wheel balance issue the steering wheel will wobble from side to side, the faster you go the more it will wobble, well to a point anyway, wheel alignment it will usually pull to one side of the road, what tyre pressures you running. cheers samo

have you stuck your head under the car to have a squiz?
any missing bolts, nuts, parts? have you had the front wheels off it??? butane :?:

It does not pull to one side the steering wheel flicks and and shakes from side to side, just checked the wheel weights - was late and dark last night and couldn't see much. One wheel has 110g and the other 30g - might be a lost weight. Running 32psi in the tyres. Have monitored and checked this the whole way and the highest they got to was 36 psi when hot. I stuck my head under and the only thing i can see is the steering arm swivle bolt (where it holds on the back of the hub) isn't on the same angle on both side but I assume this may be normal for these to move and change angles or a sold fixture would have been used. I haven't had the front wheel off as yet. Cheers for the help guys you have been most helpful.

Try swapping the tyres front to back to eliminate tyre balance as the cause of the vibration (which is the most likely scenario), as for the vagueness in the steering this may be the tyres as a more aggressive/deeper tread pattern means the blocks squirm around a bit giving a slight poor initial steering response.

The wheel alignment could be an issue too, did they give you a print out? If so what did are their final settings?

the answer is he didnt get the camber adjusted after the instalation of suspension and shoes!!!! :wink: butane

l had the same issue.
had a 50mm ride pro lift and had a camber on the front wheels. took it back to get checked and the camber looks fixed but l am too getting a slight vibration at high speed will get under car on weekend to check. they said they did another wheel alignment prob lost a weight s now off balance

I've had the wobbles since my spare tyre was rotated onto the vehicle. For some reason, toyota blanced all five tyres a few services ago and removed the lead weights mounted on the centre of the rim and replaced them with the weights that clip on the edge of the rim. This is when the problems started.

Since got back from our trip and put the car in and found I had lost weights on each wheel - and this has since resolved the problems. Cheers for your help guys.
