I know there are a few posts about gas bottles, but I have a specific question about whether anyone has experience in putting a smaller 1-3Kg gas bottle in a basket.
Carrying these things seem to be a mission and it would appear general consensus has it that they should not be carried inside. So, thinking about my setup I'm considering getting a Rhino basket (for the OzTent RV4) to mount on the Rhino Aero bars.
Would I be able to mount a smaller gas bottle / cylinder safely to the basket?
If you've done something similar, I'd really like to hear your experiences, how you mounted it, etc.
I'm thinking I'll have to mount it on top of one of the cross bars (inside the basket of course) and tie it down somehow. I saw that Rhino makes a gas bottle strap thing, but it appears to only suit a tray or platform (not a basket) and I've come across some posts that suggest it only works with certain bottles (that have a high collar / neck).
I'm keen to use a basket since it allows me to remove it easily and quickly (leaving the rack crossbars) unlike a platform or tray that requires more effort.
What do you think? Should I abandon the idea, and go the platform/tray route?
As a side question, I was thinking about getting the long and narrow basket to fit the OzTent RV4, MaxTrax, Gas Bottle which leaves me with the other half of the rack to load surfboards, etc. Again, anyone done something similar?
Much obliged,
Jaans
