  • diesel engine with gas converted???

    was wondering has anyone here got there diesel with gas added or looking into it???????????
    l am looking into it as was going to get it for my truck was going to get me 30% more economy and power but was to expensive at $13000 for a hino truck.
    as diesel is meant to only burn up around 80% so adding gas you burn up the remaning just asking the question

    Hi Corallen. I had my Patrol converted and was very happy, extra power, torque and a terrific improvement in fuel consumption, my wagon weighed 3800 kg and we consistantly returned 9.5 litres per hundred on the highway, even with the weight and roofrack, put the camper on the back and the boat on the roof put the consumption upto 12 per 100

      hey john so was the patrol diesel????
      did it cost that much for the conversion???
      heard its good but think does it hurt the engine in the long run.

        My father in law had his 2004 model landcruiser diesel ute converted and said it was a waste of money. Only very small noticeable decrease in diesel consumption and minor low down power increase, not worth the $5K it cost. The company were pitching it like it was going to have a turbo effect and it did not.

          Hi Corallen. The Patrol was the 4.2 turbo with intercooler a 2004 model. The government subsidy only covered vehicles upto 3500 kg so I had to get an engineer to re rate mine down to 3490. After the rebate the cost was roughly $2000.00 I had to reroute the exhaust and could only get a 27 lt.gas tank in place.I had 180 lt diesel and had to fill the gas tank at around 700 to 800 km. From Bribie to Merimbula NSW was 1 tank diesel and 3 gas.The only reason I have not done the Prado is that I would loose one of the fuel tanks to fit the gas tank in. The Prado offers me good consumption and power so I dont really need it, but I have fitted a DP chip to help with the towing. My Patrol was set up for major touring in isolated areas hense the excess weight.I was very happy and the Patrol has done around 50000 with the gas and no problems. A lot of line haul trucks are now using the same system without problems. Hope that helps

            it does help thanks mate l am trying any angle to get better fuel econemy from the diesel will try 3 inch exhaust then kn filter and then chip see how that goes

              Hi Corallen. The exhaust and chip will only give you better economy if you don't use the extra power available, and that is hard to do.vehicle weight, tyre choice and tyre pressures and drag from accessories will all affect your consumption. Good luck
