  • Suspension

Hi, I have a 2007 Grande and pull a 2.1 tonne caravan. The shockies were replaced 30,000 k ago but is now stuffed again. Toyota have checked out the suspension and cannot see any visible problem but acknowledge the problem. The vehicle wallows badly on "comfort ride but also in sport mode. Toyota suggested replacing the shockies butmaybe with after market tougher suspension. Has anyone done this or have any ideas?
    thanks

I see you’re only a little bit down the road from Brissy... You could talk to John at Zordo’s 4wd Suspension who’s at Upper Kedron on Brisbane’s north side. He converted my Grande to coil spring & normal shocks. I just had to unplug an under bonnet fuse & connector in the left hand side of the passenger floor well to eliminate the air susp dash light & power to the airbag compressor. Was easy enough. I told him I’d take care of the unplugging of those things so I didn’t burden him with it. I don’t know if he’s capable or willing himself, you’d have to ask. But he can definitely offer excellent & accurate advice, and definitely the suspension replacement & costs. There’s extensive rear coil conversion discussions on here that took place in the past, but id talk to John if I were you. Google his website & get his number from there. You may have to ask him to source heavier duty rear coils from Amts though, or source them yourself after speaking to John maybe if load bearing airbags inside the rear coils aren’t for you. King Springs offer “Med” duty std height & 40mm raised coils for the Grande, but Amts offers heavier duty ones which King Springs do not, such as +175kg & +300kg constant load I think they are. All depends on how often you’re towing the van I suppose with whether you go with a constant load spring or not. The +175kg spring is probably a 100-250kg rated spring. The unladen jarring may not be that bad and be something you could get used to after a while when the van isn’t hooked up. The aftermarket coil springs made for the rear of Grandes are slightly altered compared to normal springs. Normal springs won’t fit without a (different again) conversion kit being purchased for around $300. Bit of food for thought I’m sure.
