    Hi Byrnsie,

I joined the 120scool group on www.yahoogroups.com and from what I learnt on that group, the Grande airconditioning, as fitted in Japan, comes with a filter.

The majority of vehicles (GXL spec) do not come with a/c fitted in Japan - they are installed in Australia. These a/c units do not come standard with the filter.

But the filter can be purchased as a spare part from your Toyota dealer spare parts department.

That's what I understood from the 120scool group.

Maybe give your spares department a call and they can tell you the part number and cost.

    Cheers,

    Lawrance

Don't bother with the standard filter, it is very expensive ($70+) and isn't cleanable as it is made of paper. Mine was chock full of crap after 12 months and cleaning with high pressure air didn't bring it up as clean as I would like.

So I ended up installing a home made filter using commercial air conditioning filter medium. If I can't wash it I will toss it and make another one.

I've got some photos somewhere of all the crap that got caught in the filter. I was amazed. I can't believe that it isn't standard fitment.

      Just my 2c.

      Drew.

Every trip we go on, the car fills with dust from the air-cond and I keep saying to myself I must clean the filter when I get back home (never do). This year while on the Gibb River Road I finaly got sick of dust so decided to clean the filter; much to my horror the filter was bare......
It turns out that we have spent the last few years, travelling around the NT with no filter. I went to Toyota to find out why my prado was missing it's filter and it was explained to the that the GX (our model) and GLX are not fitted with the filter. My recommendation is do what Drew has done and use a commercial air conditioning filter medium.
