  • Tips needed for new Prado owner

    Hey guys,

I put up my first Prado either thursday or friday(the day can't come quick enough!!)

    It is a 11/2006 Grande V6.

I had an NRMA inspection on it today and they only found 2 things to comment about: general wear and tear re:interior, and tyres a bit noisy when driving. I knew the truck was in good nic, but am surprised it is that good!

Anyways, Can someone give me some tips on what I should and shouldn't do in my prado? I don't have the service book with me, so I have no idea what anything does. I did a Google search for some info, even just the specific specs but came up with nothing.

Take a week off work and read everything on this forum. You'll know more than the dealers.

I'm on leave for a few weeks so that's what I'm doing :-)

I don't even know if the auto is 4 or 5 speed! LOL

What is the fuel tank size? The dash from memory said it was 90L but I was reading somewhere it is more.... maybe I've got confused between the models.

Anyways, I'll get back to reading :-)

        Congratulations! You'll be happy.
As advised above have a look throughout this forum, nothing beats it.
I thought nrma no longer did inspections? I remember years ago when they did an inspection they would pickup all sorts of trivial things. If they are still the same &thats all they found then the car must be mint!

I actually feel kind of weird that they only found 2 insignificant issues that I already knew about! My mate used to get these inspections done all the time when he was looking at cars to buy and like you said, they would find the littlest of problems...

I knew the truck was good but I was still expecting something wrong like a little play in a tierod or in the tailshaft... something...

I guess I should be very happy :-) LOL

Hutch is right it is 180L for the 120.

When you fill right up the 90L light will go off, the needle on the gauge will work it's way down to half full and then suddenly the 90L light will come on and the gauge will go back to full and will work it's ay back to zero. If effect it is metering the last 90L.

Have fun, you will love it.

Re: Tips needed for new Prado owner

                    Hi Dean,

We just bought an 05 V6 GXL last week and had an inspection done (RAA over here) before we signed - the only significant thing they could find wrong with the car was that the windscreen wipers needed to be replaced!!! I also thought that they would find more little things wrong with the car, even though I thought they would find nothing major as it appeared in excellent condition from my own inspection. Reassuring to hear someone else had a near faultless inspection report.

                    Cheers,

                    Tom.

I wanna do all the stuff you said but this is a concern.... I don't want to scratch the baby! All my fourbies have been scratched up from fun, but this just looks sooooooooo good I don't want to wreck it LOL

A question regarding duco, if I scratch it up with sticks, the marks should polich out, right? so long as they don't go down deep...?

Most scratches come out, I use maguires scratch X and then polish the whole car.
