Fixed price servicing

Got the 40 thou service done today (37K) and it's fixed price service that is supposed to cost $180 actualy cost $168. Go figure?

But the missus put the car in and for some reason she agreed for them to clean the air-con system. And for that they charged the princely sum of $80. I was away out at Eucla on business otherwise I would have told them to stick the aircon "clean" you know where.

I was quoted about $90 to 100 for the air con cleaning. They put some machine in the vehicle and run the air con to flush out the bacteria. You can buy a can of Wynns Airco fresh which pretty much does the same thing for about $45.00.

My other car is a Kluger, which is relatively new. Anyway, the other day I received a brochure in the mail promoting my new vehicle's 'fixed price servicing' arrangement which also advised me to book my car in for its first 10,000km Service Advantage Service .... only problem is that I had this service done about 4 weeks ago. :shock:

Hmmmmm........... my fixed price services are $250 :x

Edit: Just realized this is my 500th post............. geez i must talk a lot crap to get that many :lol:

Had my last fixed price service (60k) but the dealer has extended for the 70k service to make up for the tailshaft clunk issue that took months to fix.

I wonder why the 09 compliance petrols now cost $30 more than the 120's on the fixed price service schedule?

Prado - Jan 2009 compliance plates to July 2009 production $210 (petrol) $250 (diesel) Up to 6
Prado (petrol & diesel) - Apr 2008 to Dec 2008 compliance plates $180 Up to 6

Looking through some old invoices, my diesel (now sold) was $439 for it's 60,000km service, that's a 76% increase in cost over a fixed price service. :cry:

Because I signed up for my 09 back in about October 2008 I get the servicing for $180 for first 6 services.

On an average basis is the fixed proce the actual price you pay or is it one of those they are always finding something outside of the fixed agreement that you end up paying for.

Reason i ask is that i had fixed proce for a commodore once (dont ask) and out of 15 services only 2 were at the fixed price. All of the rest had something out of the service scope

I have had 4 of my 6 services completed and there hasn't been any "extras" yet.

I have had my 10k and 30k services done at my local (not toyota) workshop and the cost was less than the fixed price service, 20k was done at Cairns Toyota and no extras. Probably go back to Toyota for 40k as it is a big one.
