    • Anyone know of a good person on north side brisbane to get a blank cut? I asked my local locksmith and he said he can't cut blank automotive keys. Bought one on ebay and just want the key cut without the transponder as a spare as I dont have a spare.

      Cheers

      • I had mine done at the local key cutter in the shopping centre
So i would ask another thats local to you because i dont think the Prado key is anything special and most key cutters would be able to do it

        • Hi Guys, both of our keys have stopped unlocking the doors. I'm assuming they both have flat battery's. Is this as simple as replacing the battery in the key and it will work again? We are currently manually locking and unlocking the drivers door.

          • Looks like the key takes a CR1616 Button Battery?

              • I just went through the exercise of getting new keys for my 120 GRJ 2005. This is the cheapest method I could find.

Step1: Go to http://www.autokeys.us/ to get your transponder. This is the expensive bit. I spent $105.35 for three transponders. They were only $13.80 US each but the bank charges for making payment were $40. I figured I would get 3 in the one hit.
These guys are in China but their sales reps are pretty fast on email response and very helpful. I got the 433MHz one to match the 120 GRJ. The product code is BOO-TOY-TY2B-50171 which is listed on their site as the Europe model. They let me know before I bought that it would work on an Aussie Prado.

                Step2: Get the shell case
The best place I found was below but plenty of people sell these.
                http://www.eachbuyer.com/entry-key-r...20141114102611

                Step 3: Program the transponder
This was tricky. I tried two methods before I found one that worked. This was the working sequence for me.
You need to use your existing key for this. Just hold the new unprogrammed transponder in your hand and use your cut and working key to do the ignition insertions and on off bits. For the steps involving the remote buttons use the new transponder buttons. You need to do these in a relatively short period of time for it to work. With a bit of practice you will get it.

                Key Removed from Ignition
Drivers Door open, all other doors closed
Insert key into ignition then remove it - do this twice
Close and open the drivers door twice
Insert key into the ignition then remove it
Close and open the drivers door twice
Insert the key into the ignition, then close the door
Turn the key from off to on and then off again - once (this adds a remote while retaining
the original codes, twice rewrites the original remote codes
                Remove the key
(locks should cycle and you know you are on the right track)
Press the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote at the same time
                for 1 second
Press and hold any button on the remote for 2 seconds
(locks should cycle once for correct programming, or twice if
                procedure is incomplete)

Then try the lock and unlock buttons. The key should work. If not try it again from the start. The locks will lock and unlock twice if you have not been successful.

Step4: Put the transponder in the shell and snap it closed. Then screw it together.

Step5: Get your new key cut from the existing one. I got mine cut at the local Home Hardware for about $7 each.

                • Hi Mark,
Just a couple of questions regarding your programming, does your procedure work to program both the new key transponder as well as the remote lock/unlock for the doors. I have just been to my local locksmith in Eltham (Melbourne), they say that the only way to program the transponder is using a computer program (which they don't have). They can supply & cut the key but cannot program the transponder, would your program work on these keys/ remote/ transponder??
I want to buy a spare key, however I want to be sure of the correct procedure first.

                  • Anyone got a reasonably priced method of acquiring a spare key with all functions, (remote buttons, immobiliser etc). Local locksmith can only get one without remote buttons but with transponder for about $140.00. He tells me that Toyota is the only place to get a full functioning version but haven't even spoken to them about it as have been told by others they are somewhere in the region of $450.00

I also need the innards as the vehicle only came with 1 key. Found these on fleabay.

Should be fine as mine is 11/04 build. Programming procedure at the bottom of the fleabay page and locksmith will cut it for about $35.00. Alternatively cut and electronically program for $104.00

                        • I just purchased a 120 v6 that came with have 2 spare cut keys with empty shells, (these do not have the transponder or chip in them) and one complete working key. Has anyone come across a place that just sells the electronic parts of the keys?
                          Cheers

New key has arrived so programmed it according to instructions on link above. Doors now open but still have to take it 100km or so to get it cut. While waiting for it to arrive I found another place will cut it for $10.50 so all up cost will be $60.50. As it was considerably cheaper to cut there I asked how much to program a key if I supplied it and was quoted $250.00. I told them I could do it manually in under 5 minutes but she stood firm. They must get some suckers there but I'm not one of them!
