  • I have my Prado

    Hi all

Picked up my Prado yesterday. 2008 GXL diesel auto. The 7 hr drive home served as a intro for me.

    Overall very happy.

I have poked around it a bit and looked through the manual last night. I must say I find car manuals frustrating when they cover multiple engines, models, fitouts etc and don't clearly specify what pages apply to you.

I will poke around more today but just a couple of questions though.

With the drivers seat you can adjust the angle of the seat back and you can slide the seat back and forward, but is that it for the adjustment?

I find that the rear view mirror is about at eye level, I can see fine out of it, the point is it kinda blocks vision to the left of centre and ahead, other cars I have driven it has always been higher above eye level. Is this a Prado thing or just this vehicle? There is certainly room for it to be a bit higher.

The centre console top slider thingy? Why does it slide? Is it just an armrest for short people who have the seat right forward and need an armrest?

There is an ARB bar fitted. I notice even on the bitumen it moves/vibrates pretty much constantly. It is not making noise and the travel is quite small so I don't think it is a problem but not owning a bull bar before I just wanted to check this was normal. I imagine it is connected to the chassis so I guess it feel more bumps than I do sitting in the cabin.

I think I have worked out the fuel gauge regarding how it shows the dual tanks. That said I think they could have come up with a better way of displaying it.

New Bridgstone 694LT tyres today to replace the AT20s. Will make it look tougher.

    cheers
    Brett

    Hi Brett
    Congrats on the Prado. Enjoy
I'm the same as you, on being a new, first time Prado owner. Love it...
With the bar I think you got it in one, with it mounted to the chassis, the vibration is more noticable.
    Cheers

Seats: You can lift or lower the headrest. If you wanted lumbar adjustment or seat height adjustment you needed to buy the Grande with electric seats. That said, these seats are more comfortable than others in the Toyota range, and Patrools and Colorado, etc.

Mirror: How tall are you? Maybe you should lower your seat back a little.

Console: the slidey thing holds a box of tissues for the missus to use everytime you put a scratch on the paintwork or push over a tree or a camel or whatever.

Fuel Guage: Just remember that when the GREEN 90 LITRE sign comes on then you have used one tank and have one left. The first movement of the needle reads the first tank (90L) from the "FULL" mark to the "HALF" way mark. That is it reads the first 90L over this arc of movement only. The second 90L reads from FULL to EMPTY just like any other guage. It is not switchable - the system switches automatically. I always reset the trip meter for every tank.

These cars will go anywhere with comfort, and with the D4D, with plenty of power for towing, climbing, etc. This is my second Prado (09 D4D auto) and the best. Had my V6 petrol 5 speed for 11 years before buying my current ride 2 years ago.

Welcome to the "club" and now get out there and enjoy all the great outdoors with the capability of your Prado - provided all the water has gone that is.
