  • Fuel guage problem - What could be the cause?

    Hi all,

I have a 04, KZ Prado. The fuel guage seems to be broken and I can't think what the cause might be. The prado has the 180 l tank (south africa) as well. I know that it is supposed to go until about half way and then up again with the 90l light coming on.

When I bought mine and filled up the needle did not move for about 300km and then just slowly dropped until empty and the orange lamp lit up. Filled it with 172 litres then around 1400km.

Also the information display shows economy of 9.6l/100km which of course is way out when you take 1400 km driven on 172 litres... when filled up the range shows around 652 km and then drops gradually as the km progress...

Where do I start looking? Toyota SA is all but helpfull and I don't want to leave the car there with an 'open cheque book'. So if anyone has some suggestions/comments or similar problems I can at least know where to start!

    Thanks!

Is the second tank factory fit or something the previous owner installed?

Those are strange symptoms. I can't really say for sure, but if I had to guess, I would say the rear sender unit could be the culprit.

        Cheers,
        Declan.
