  • How far did your 120 drop when you added a bar and winch?

Ok, title is self explanatory. The reasons maybe not so.

I recently bent my steering knuckle so had to strip the front left of my car. While there I thought that I may as well strip the lot and give it all a thorough inspection. Other than the bent knuckle I'm happy with what I found, but I thought that while I had it apart I'd get some coil spacers made to account for a bar and winch that are going on soon. Hence, the question.

If anybody pay attention to how much theirs dropped with the installation of a bar, I'd appreciate the info.

I got a TJM T13 bar, haven't noticed. Ride is the same as it was before.

Though if you are going the winch route, then yes the extra weight will be a factor..

Just watch that if you add strut spacers, you will need to space out the bump stops or the strut will bottom out before the bumpstop is fully compressed. What suspension have you got on now? And what are the front and rear suspension heights? AJ120 has 6mm strut spacers in the For Sale which will give you 12mm lift. This should about compensate the bar and winch.

Sorry. You misread. I'm getting coil spacers custom made as no one makes them. I already have 95mm of down travel and strut spacers would push me into the realms of smashed CV's.

I have a 2" tough dog lift but the front never came as high as the back so this is an opportunity to correct that to some degree. Obviously the back will always sit higher to account for loading but my front is way too low.

Surely new springs would be cheaper?

95mm of down travel isn't nescessesarily an issue when adding strut spacers, I had 100mm and then added the spacers to get lift, its the overall droop that is the issue. You can see details here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post366734 of what I did with mine.

My strut spacers can be found here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-Strut-spacers if your interested.

Now that you've provided extra information, I would go with the right springs for the job, because if your coils have sagged too much, it may fully compress first and that isn't going to be good. So check this first before adding coil spacers.

                Get new coils.
I can tell you general answers, please tell me:
                What bar? What weight?
What winch? Rope or cable? What weight?
You might loose 10-20mm depending on the answers.

The lift was put in about 14 months ago but the front never came up the same as the back. The back came up 55mm and the front came up 45mm. The installer claimed this wasn't unusual and would not do anything to rectify the issue. The springs aren't sagged as they are still sitting at the same level as install. As the prado sits front down as stock this is acsentuated by the situation. I'd just like to bring the front up 25mm to allow for winch, bar, lights..etc. so that the front sits its standard level.

Anyway. Back to the actual question. Did anybody pay attention to how much their front end sagged after adding a bar and winch?

Coil spacers are also available from Zordos, probably cheaper than custom made: http://www.zordos4wdsuspension.com.a...d=54&Itemid=58

I understand your concern there. A 95mm down travel with a 40mm lift sounds like you have Tough Dog front shocks? If so, you could fit AJ120s 6mm strut spacers as a maximum, any strut spacer longer than 6mm is too long for those struts. I would also recommend a diff drop spacer kit from amts, even if you don't fit strut spacers. They are cheap insurance for your CVs.

This is common for Tough Dog front springs, unfortunately even the TDC974H springs are too short to give more than 40mm lift with a steel bar and winch. You could fit the longer TDC974HH Tough Dog springs which should give you about 40mm more lift than the TDC974H spring.

To answer your original question, you need to know the weight of the bullbar and winch as well as the rate of your front springs to predict exactly how much sag will occur. You could expect the suspension to drop between 10mm and 20mm on average.

Thank you for at least referring to the original question and for your informative answer. I can only seem to find coil spacers for the rear, and I'm happy with that end. I'd not like to go with a diff drop as I don't think it will be necessary if I get coil spacers. It's my understanding(correct me if I'm wrong), that my CV's will not be extended any further with coil spacers like they would be with strut spacers. My intention is to go no more than a 15mm spacer as the front needs to come up 10mm to match the back and I am anticipating around 90kg with bar/winch/lights, etc
