If you can't fix it with a hammer...... you have an electrical problem.
great stuff, i've been putting off installing another socket at the back, mostly because i can't find a good enough looking socket, good tip there, i've already been on their site and put it down as a fav for later!
An excellent guide, have the same job scheduled for this weekend (getting ready for my dual battery setup). I also ordered all of the parts from Derek, waiting on delivery.
Just a few questions:
* Regarding the hole you made for the socket, do you think it is safe to use a drill (to pilot the hole for the socket) and then use a stanley knife to cut it to size?
* With the socket, which terminals are positive and negative?
* What size (Amps) fuse did you use?

* Regarding the hole you made for the socket, do you think it is safe to use a drill (to pilot the hole for the socket) and then use a stanley knife to cut it to size? If you can afford a holesaw it will make it neater. All hardware shops have them for about 10 bucks. It will do the pilot hole for you. Get the closest size possible and use a round file to make the hole suit.
*With the socket, which terminals are positive and negative? I just checked and the middle pin is definately positive. The outside frame of the cigi lighter is negative or ground.
* What size (Amps) fuse did you use? This cigi lighter is rated at 20 amps so a fuse that size would be fine providing the wiring is capable. Remember the fuse is designed to protect the wire nothing else....even in your house.
07 Prado GXL, D4D manual, silver and a fridge with constantly changing beer levels.
I used exactly the same Marine socket from Sidewinder and run into a problem with the plug on my Bushman fridge. The plug would not lock into the socket, so when on dirt roads, it vibrated out of the socket causing a loss of power to the fridge.
I tried several different plugs and ended up emailing Derek who assured me their plugs locked into the socket. I bought a new plug from him and problem fixed, although I have now bought the right socket to use the plug wihout the red bit on the end and that will definitely not come out.
Just in the process of building the drawers now, got the basics made and the brackets to lock into the seat mounts and picking upmdrawer runners tomorrow.

As mentioned elsewhere an unsoldered properly crimped joint is far more reliable than a soldered joint of any type . Soldering of cable joints is almost unheard of in professional circles and has been that way for many years . I have young blokes who work with me who don't even know whata soldering iron is but daily join hundreds of wires .
