  • DIY Boost Gauge for $60

installed boost gauge today, very easy install, takes around an hour
Boost gauge $40 from local spare parts shop and has mulitcolour back light

the mounting pod cost $10 from supercheap drill holes in back to suit you gauge, this one was a speco brand
    [/img]
you also need about 2.5m of 1/4inch vacum hose, and a 1/4 inch T piece. attach to intercooler on inletmanifold side using tee piece.
run hose along the firewall and through into the cab up to the steering column, i wired the backlight for the boost gauge by taking power off the 10 amp ingition fuse in the fuse box and earthing to the metal in the dash
attach the gauge to the steering column with doublesided tape and the finished product is

    and this

Can I make a small suggestion?

      Tee of between the boost sensor and the small damper, this is;

      a) More accurate as it reads after the the throttle body which acts a
      restriction.

      b) The damper reduces/stops needle shake at idle/low boost.

        looking good
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

The only way to stop the needle shake is to get a quality guage like
            Auto Meter or VDO.
I went through this issue on a previous car, 3.0lt patrol.

What psi are you seeing..Best i've seen is 30psi on the patrol

Well I finally got aroud to installing my boost gauge, When I was looking at which vacuum line to hook the gauge up to I noticed that the picute supplied by Mick L shows the vacuum lines from the red (????) goes to a diferent location that mine ( see below pic's for better explanation) Mine from the top of red (????) goes to the intercooler. I don't whether miy lines have been changed or the ones that Mick L shows in his photo's or whetehr it matkes a difference at all.

as long as it is on the intercooler side, it should be fine,
as this is the pressure you are trying to measure

It makes no difference, the " red thing" is a damper. The sensor it's plumbed to on the intercooler is the vacuum/boost sensor for the ECU. By teeing in the boost gauge between the damper and the sensor, needle shake at idle and low boost is greatly reduced.

Hi, just a quick question for some one in the know, i bought a autometer boost guage to fit to my d4d, now i just wanna pick someones brain as to is it the same place for the tee piece on the d4d as the old diesel as in pipe? I would appreciate if a piccy could be shown of the exact one to tap into, cheers

On the intake manifold side (Passenger side) of the intercooler are two sensors (attached to the end tank of the core) The one furthest to the front of the engine bay is the ECU boost sensor. TEE into it's line.

                              Hi,

I like to know if you guy's get a vacuum reading on the boost gauge? If no, why is that?. I got one installed on my 1KZ-TE, and one of my mate ask me how come my boost gauge doesn't read vacuum?, and I just answer maybe its just a diesel engine different from a petrol engine. Just want to really know what the answer is. Unless there is something wrong?

                              Thanks guys,
                              Chubbo
