Rear Camera

I have my doubts as to whether or not that is for the camera as it would need an RCA type cable for the video to go to the monitor/deck...

I would say the wiring would more likely be located in the quater panel areas and the camera would have an extension cable with it to reach the harness?

My guestimation...

A lot of cameras can be run on standard cabling and do not need a coax on short runs.

I was recently searching for a camera and decided to ring the local dealer, they have them in stock for $305 list but it only had about a short loom. I decided to check the tailgate for wirng and there was none.So I think it is safe to say that the later models came pre wired. If yours does it would make the install a piece of cake. I picked up a BEC106 from US for AU$256 door to door, installed with a two way switch works like a dream. Thanks to all who inputted.

Rear Camera.

Hello Addy and Justo.
I have just ordered the Bec 106 from an Ebay shop called Tristateaudio. The cost was $190 Aus. But get this they want to charge me $65 US for postage! The parcel only weighs 1lb (1/2kg). I have sent them a "please explain". I recently imported from the UK some engine and gearbox components for my Group Nc Mini racecar that weighed 13kg. That freight only cost me about $120 Aus and was delivered in a week.
Anyway we'll see how that turns out. Addy, I can post pics and story when I do the install. Loook up LCOOL (Landcruiser Owners something something), a similar site to this for an excellent article on this subject. Print the article off and give it to your local auto electrician. They should be able to do it for you. Dont pay theToyota Stealer $900 for the same job.

Hi mumstruk, I purchased a BEC106 from tristateaudio recentrly and the freight was the same , tried in vane to reduce. Still the best deal I could find at the time, was here in three days although it could have taken a week or so and I wold not have cared! Great addition to the vehicle and are happy with the finished job.

Hi Everyone

I've recently purchased a 2003 TD Grande and I'm loving this site (Wifes not happy though!!!!)

The prado already had a reverse camera fitted, but on a seperate screen under the ashtray. I'm keen to cable the camera into the sat nav, can someone please point me in the right direction to purchase the connector for the back of the Sat Nav unit.

Just came across your interesting post on the reverse camera.

Got my new Prado 3 weeks ago (South Africa) and the local Toy guys don't have a clue if
the nav sytem can accomodate a camera to view on the nav screen.
Am offered separate screen camera only.

Looking at your picture of the nav screen, can you tell me the model number of your satnav please.
Mine reads B9010, otherwise the face is identical.
Other questions:
Are the night pictures clear (Infra red).
What degree view do you have, looking at your pic -seems about 80 degrees.
Also is there a tech reference for the adaptor that you have used.

Your system looks excellent - congratulations on the superb effort.

I bought mine through eBay from the US. I can send you the link to the sellers that I bought through if you want it. As for the adapter cable, I needed it on mine but seems the later models don't need it.

I think from memory it was a 104, the 105 I would imagine is backwards compatible?

Hi Adam

I have no problems with the over-ride at all. All I've done is fit a two position (both active) switch (Narva brand) so I can toggle between a normal reverse signal current (green wire in behind the dash) and a live accessory wire.

When in the position which completes the normal reverse wire signal the camera works normally - image on the sat nav changes when you put into reverse. When the switch is in the other position and draws current from a live accessory it acts the same as the reverse circuit but in completely independant of any reverse signal, so on all the time when the ignition is on.

I don't prescribe to the advice you've received - as far as I know the unit will switch 'alt monitor mode' if it receives a live current and has nothing to do with the GPS function.

How do you hook it up?
Reverse wire goes into one terminal, accessory into the middle then constant 12v into the last terminal?
