  • Re: OME suspension lift

Thanks 404pug, good to hear the combo is working fine for you so far! I would be very interested to hear how it performs with a bit of load, especially in the rear. My only lingering doubt is that the 895s might be found slightly wanting with the camper trailer / load on board when the time comes. I'm reluctant to supplement with airbags if (as suggested by another poster) they do compromise wheel articulation quite a bit. Thus, I'm still wondering about the 896s & putting up with a bit of discomfort. If only I had such a rig to hand to try the ride for myself (not gonna happen here in Rock-Vegas any time soon I'm thinking).

    Cheers,

I have the 884 and 896 combination, as recommended by ARB.
Steel ARB bar with IPF's, and dual batteries up front. Towbar, outback drawers, Waeco fridge and recovery kit in the back.
Front is fine, rear for mine is a bit too firm.
However, with extra gear in the back, extra spare on the roof, the 1.7 t off road van on the back, it's a very good setup, with perfectly level and nicely compliant ride.
Always a compromise when choosing - but, looking back, I'd probably go 895's with airbags in the back.
And if I add a winch up front then I'll need to change to 885's.

Hi all, I have OME885S with N140S with an ARB Delux winch bar with 2 IPFs and a D4D auto, no 2nd battery. I have read the posts and think that either the springs are faulty (too soft) or the struts have incorrect valving. If I even think about touching the brakes the front dives very quickly. Mind you they have done it since I put them on at 00052km driven so i have no real knowledge for the toyo suspension.

Can anyone advise me if I should change to another set as it is really peeving me off, especially off road and I have to feather the brakes really well to stop it crashing the bash plate into smitherines when driving over rocks etc.

        Thanks in advance.

          Hi Gordon,

The toyo suspension is very soft in the front and after I installed the OEM 883 with OME NC Sports, it was much better. Still I found it bottoming out in certain situations. I had the opportunity to drive Grey Nomad's Prado for a small stretch of the Simpson Desert, and felt that his front suspension was less likely to bottom out. At the risk of not remembering the details of his suspension combination, I'll defer to Grey Nomad. Perhaps drop him a PM.

          Cheers,
          LFaR.

N140S's are way too softly valved for your 120. if you are not sure, you should look at getting the new OME Sport struts. part number should be 90000. these will be valved better and will suit you a lot better.

Agreed, a mate just swapped his 140s for 90000 and says they are awesome

Thanks for that. When I initially ordered the OME, I did mention that I have the ARB winch bar, likely to put a winch in and they still got it wrong. I am upgrading to sports very very soon. No doubt it will be a whole lot better.

Any chance of measuring the height of your vehicle including the ARB Deluxe roof rack you have? I know this might sound weird but my missus takes the Prado to the shopping malls all the time and I'm thinking of getting the Deluxe rack installed with my OME lift.

I'll check again tonight and post... but know it's less than 2.2m total height with the ARB roof rack. We fit in under our house (UMR) carport and some undercover carpark areas no worries. Others I'm a little wary despite whatever their signs say.

PML120R and I put the OME sports in the front of the PRado today and it is significantly better than my previous struts from OME.

When we bled the Sports struts before inserting them into the strut assembly, depressing them took approx 8 seconds to depress the strut to its base. When we did the same thing to the original strut, it took approx 2 seconds with slightly less pressure. Me thinks they are stuffed. No wonder they were so soft.

The Prado has been soft ever since I got them put in so I will take them back to ARB to discuss possible warrantly/refund % etc. Maybe they are out of a faulty batch.

Overall, I am glad I upgraded to the sports. Just got to get the wheel balance/alignment tomorrow.

Have the Prado booked in for a Nitrocharger Sports lift Wednesday next week - ended up going with OME due to the fact that they are common amongst the 4WD shops and got a price I couldn't refuse.

Looking forward to ridding the rig of sag in the rear!!

Sounds good, I'll be doing the same in the coming weeks with PML120R doing the install.

What combo in springs and struts/shocks did you decide on?
Can you post some info on what heights were gained after the install.

                          Cheers

Spring rate wise I ended up going the 885 in the front and 896 in the rear. Will report back on measurements.

Wow, what a difference the upgrade made! Ride is firmer but the shocks handle bumps in the road so much better. Less body roll makes it feels more stable around corners. I haven't had a chance to take it offroad yet! Overall it so much more of a pleasure to drive.

                              Components:
OME Nitrocharger Sports 9000 struts with 885 springs in the front, 6005 shocks and 896 springs in the rear.

                              Measurements:
                              Before
                              Front Left: 720mm
                              Front Right: 730mm
                              Rear Left: 750mm
                              Rear Right: 750mm

                              After
                              Front Left: 795mm
                              Front Right: 800mm
                              Rear Left: 825mm

                                Hi All,

Decided to take the plunge in getting suspension upgrade.
Was choosing between Bilstein/Lovell or OME system.
Ended up with OME purely on pricing (both great system). OME $1600.00 and Bilstein $2080.00 fitted inc wheel alignment.
The prado is booked in at ARB Keilor Park for next Friday week with the following setup
                                Front:
OME885/90000 (ARB steel bullbar, 9000lbs winch, DBS, IPF Driving Lights)
                                Rear:
OME896/60005 (Constant 250kg weight carried on daily basis)
                                OME661 - Stone Guard
I hope made the right choice with this setup.
Currently the height of the car is 730 front and 790 rear (i have 25psi polyair bag)

I'll post some pics when the install done.

                                Cheers,
