  • blue max suspension and roofracks

    Gday Guys

New to the forum as i have just bought a new 120 diesel prado. Pick it up next week but am looking at getting a suspension upgrade for our round oz trip next year.

I have been recommended a blue max 40mm lift front and back. This includes new shocks and coils for $1500 fitted. Has anybody had this done to their prado. I havent heard of blue max before but the 4x4 shop is recommending it. We will be towing a reasonable light camper trailer and would like a little more clearance.

Im also looking at getting a roof rack (for a second spare as the rear wheel carrier is too expensive) and have so far been given two choices. A rino rack or a track lander. Any info on suitable roof racks would also be greatly appreciated.

    I look forward any replys

You will pay around that money for a quality product like OME, Lovells or if you stretch the budget a little it will get you some top notch bilsteins and Ridepro springs.

There is plenty of advice and user comment on most products in this Forum. Have a read on Old Man Emu, Bilsteins and Lovells (input that into search) and you will find a plethora of info on all of em.

    Welcome to PP!!

I personally have just put in the OME gear and i love it.

      suspension

welcome to the forum, plenty of info in other threads on suspension set ups just follow Damiens advice on searching. I am looking at getting a roof basket as well, I currently have Toyota genuine roof racks (3 bars) but would like a basket as well. The Rhino's, Thule's and ARB's are all nice but expensive. I have recently seen a new one by ROLA which looks good on the prado and is all steel, around $260 at Repco I believe. Might be worth a look. KMKPrado

Did it look like this one, it is called the rola vortex and i have one, great little basket and very strong. I was lucky to pick up one from Roof Racks Galore in Brissie, it had been on of their cars for a while so i got it as a demo model, perfect condition for $198.
        http://www.rola.com.au/rola/
$259 is the recommended price, the basket is 17 kg so very sturdy.

          suspension

Hi again Hutch, that is the exact one I was talking about. I saw it on a nice blue prado on the forum with big muddies on. Perhaps thats your ride. Looked great though and kind of sold me on it. Glad to hear that you are happy with it. I will have to go hit Repco up for a price match if possible. KMKPrado[/img]

Mate the prado is Blue but no big muddies on this one. Actually i don't even have a photo's i think with the basket on the car. It was suppose to go to Fraser but i had that much room in the back of the prado compared to the old Jeep i couldn't fill it. Just got to be careful with cross rails for these things, the cross rail in the photo above sits in side of the factory rails are only rated to 75kg versus the one that sit on top are 100kg rated. as per the photo.

Hope I am not hijacking the thread (suspension), but love/want the roof basket. Do you gents have an idea of the added height with the east/west bars flush (75kg limit) and also the raised bars (100kg limit) with basket attached. Just for garage snugness. Is it difficult to remove/fit? If anyone else sees a competitive price, price matching sounds great. Cairns freight adds up.

Hi all, Sorry but I'm not quite on topic either.

I'm also toying with doing a suspension upgrade reasonably soon after I take delivery of my Prado... God knows when that will be though..

I'm wondering what people's experiences have been with how this affects their Toyota warranty. I assume that once you throw away the standard Toyota bits and "modify" the vehicle then any faults to do with suspension, wheels and the like will no longer be covered??

Most likely. All warranty's generally applied to standard or if you get it fitted before delivery then you can often have it all covered by the warranty as it was all done before being handed over i think...

After a heap of ringing around and forum surfing, I have come to the conlusion that the Blue Max gear maybe the way to go....

$1325 fitted for exactly the same Springs as OME (just a different colour, both are Kings) and exactly the same sruts and shocks as TJM (both are Cofap). All with a 3 year 60 thou K warranty.

                            Not bad.

Seems I already got in trouble once in this thread but this time I'm trying to keep all Blue Max stuff together. No really I am!!

I've been looking into suspension for some time now and I must admit I'm leaning towards a Blue Max setup. Talked about the Bilstein shocks with a few suspension businesses here in Perth. Seems that they are well regarded but for the workout my rig gets just now I really can't justify the price differential over the Blue Max's. I just don't think I could do them justice!

So I talked with Coastal 4x4 here in Perth. They want $1450.00 to supply and fit blue max gear to the Prado. I haven't been able to read much about the "foam cell" rear shocks they recommended though. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good reading on them, or tell me if they are ok? Certainly they look damn chunky. And the 3 year warranty certainly sounds good.

Mitch I know you had the Blue Max set up installed. Did you end up getting the 40mm ride height lift?

From the pic below you can see that with just the sovereign bar and dual battery kit I'm already sinking at the front. So it's time to kick the standard gear I think.

And no smart remarks about how clean it is!!:x
