  • Dissconnecting Sway Bars

    Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question, when doing extreme off-road disconnecting the sway bars gives you more flex.
I'm wondering if you have to remove them completely or just disconnect the linkages on each side and zip tie them back to the sway bar, leaving the bar bolted to the chassis?

Will the bar get in the way?

    Thanks,

Removing the sway bar is only going to help off road if you have enough travel that its the limiting factor for your suspension to fully flex. I think you need to determine if that's the case before anything.

I did a heap of measuring and posted some findings in my rig build, it goes over a few posts and a few pages with a few interruptions in between, however it starts here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post355055

Maybe have a look through what I found and see how that relates to your setup.

    Cheers Andrew

      Hi AJ,

      thanks for your input,
correct me if I'm wrong but removing the sway bar will allow it to flex more freely so the vehicle is not so stiff.
also will allow further flex if its the item limiting the travel

when im on the hoist next ill have to disconnect the sway bar and see if anything moves.

Best bet is to do a test. At the rear it makes little difference if you have a 2" lift and extended arms. Haven't tried the front.

If the sway bar is not the limiting factor in your suspension travel then I doubt disconnecting is going to make a noticeable difference. Disconnecting sway bars is more for the hard core solid axle long travel suspension guys.
